naturally this has led me to develop a newfound love of skill-based arcade games, so at least there's that!

Madeline (SCARY) @scenicsystems.bsky.social · 21h

there's a few exceptions: games with a mystery-based plot being a notable example (which usually leads to a sobering crash in enjoyment afterwards). but more often than not, the onboarding experience of any game is an awkward, fatiguing one to me

something i'm realizing about my tastes in games is that i don't get that starry-eyed, butterflies-in-my-stomach "crush" when playing a new game anymore. i've found that it's only really when i've slowed down and become familiarized with a game that i start to really fall in love with it

you gotta understand, I'm a reaaaally paranoid person with very bad moral ocd 😓 it's hard for me to process emotions around love and adoration without it being embedded in some Personal Failure imagined in my head. but I'm definitely getting better at it.

Posting again! Good progress is being made, but I would like to secure this asap-- my rent is due on the 25th, which gives me some time, but the sooner things can be squared away, the faster. I appreciate everything so far-- you're all the best. ko-fi.com/squigglydot/...

it's hard to illustrate a cat's personality through image alone, so know that Solomon is extremely sweet and lovey-dovey. the first day he came home with us, he crawled up in bed and cuddled by our side all night long. he is a bit clingy and vocal, but he's calming down more every day. i love him 💖

Madeline (SCARY) @scenicsystems.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

everyone, i'd like to introduce you to Solomon, my new cat. he's an incredibly sweet, affectionate boy, and i can't wait to give him a happy life.

New Blog Post: Why I Love Unfair Traps in Arcade Games People usually dislike hard memo traps in arcade games, or at best think they're "not that bad". I love them, though, and I think arcade games would be worse without them. Here's why: duckberet.com/blog/i-like-... (game: Violent Storm)

ohhh thank you emi, that means a lot to me 💖 i guess i always just get a sense of guilt whenever i'm not delivering enough for people to enjoy, like i need to keep up a sense of output. maybe i just need to let myself rest.

Madeline (SCARY) @scenicsystems.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

it sucks so much...i feel like i come across as a really boring person, and the reason is because i have no energy. i can hardly read, draw, even sitting at my desk just winds me. i want to do more! but i am so insanely, viscerally exhausted. i don't know what's wrong with me.

111

Madeline (SCARY) @scenicsystems.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

i am convinced the only way i can be cured of my debilitating exhaustion is if someone hits me over the head really hard and puts me in a 3 month coma. i don't know if i can do so otherwise

hello, everyone. September is always a hectic (and rather sick) time, so the pace of this month's journal sort of reflects that, but as well as discussing some short games and rare STGs, I wrote a few words (and questions) towards the directon of the site. faearie.neocities.org/posts/journa...
