I really hate how you’re correct so often 🥲

At this point I feel like anyone in this space should have a “no Ben Shapiro” clause that lets them pull the ripcord if he’s involved at all whatsoever.

Yeah I really think a lot of these folks do it an mis-service by attributing more capability to it than it actually has. Because the capabilities of LLMs is definitely non-zero. I just wish it wasn’t forced down my throat as the solution to everything.

Best I can do is a Fiat train at a rail museum somewhere in Tennessee from 1995 that jump scared me while scanning family photo negatives my dad sent me.
The front of an old rail vehicle that looks really funny with a FIAT logo on the grill. The railcar is brown and the photo is from the 1st of July 1995. It was taken somewhere in Tennessee.A side angle photo of a brown Fiat railcar, showing it's cute wheel covers. It was taken on 1 July 1995, somewhere in Tennessee.

It’s really wild how when I say I got off twitter because of how awful it is, people look at me like I’m the weird one.

Yeah I left tech before the rise of LLMs in production systems, but I would hate to have to debug any system that uses a LLM in the hot path, much less a system coded by LLMs. And if you’re hooking this shit up to anything that involves “compliance” you deserve to get your shit wrecked.

I said this about the AI guys as well, that no matter how incompetent or stupid or unprofitable these people and their projects are, nothing seems to be able to stop them. I hate being doomer about it but it sucks to see the guys that suck keep somehow avoiding consequences.

Thank you! It’s refreshing to see this viewpoint from people still in the industry.

I do appreciate your optimism here, but my take from working in tech is that the good people are vastly outnumbered by opportunists and people who just don’t care about the greater impact of their work. I just don’t see things getting better without structural change forced upon the industry.

Earlier Jail Seen as Incubator for Abuses in Iraq

Baghdad known as Camp Cropper was reportedly the site of numerous abuses of Iraqi prisoners several months before the mistreatment of prisoners unfolded last fall at Abu Ghraib prison, according to documents and interviews.

It’s funny you mention the elk. I remember when they built the toll roads around Austin towards San Antonio, they had issues (maybe they still do?) with people hitting wild pigs going the 85mph speed limit.

How are they going to weasel their way out of this one? It always seems like these clowns find a way out of every situation that would destroy a normal business and I expect nothing less from this.

Following the non-talk radio/Seattle times coverage of this city council has me wondering what these people think their jobs are. Quite a few seem to not be capable of understanding or doing the bare minimum required for this job.

I won’t disagree that Texas is ugly, and I really hope you’re feeling better about the lack of vacation soon. As someone who grew up and lived in Texas for 24 years and now lives in the PNW, seeing the wide Texas sky when I go back still shakes me almost as much as the PNW mountains my first time.

I know @cantwell.senate.gov and @murray.senate.gov are probably not going to say anything but they need to hear it anyway. Silence while your colleagues use language like this about trans people is unacceptable.

Fuck these ghouls. Made calls to my senators asking what the fuck they’re doing about this. To all the cis people out there reading this, the very least you can do is yell at your representatives about how not calling this shit out is unacceptable.

I think it’s at least worth letting them know you’re disappointed. A bar I was excited to go to had posted a menu last year that had clearly used AI generated images. I sent them an email voicing my disappointment, and while the response was defensive at least they know someone didn’t like it.

And I’ve been buzzed by more cars in parking lots and crosswalks while walking and on the road while biking than I’ve ever encountered shitty cyclists. I walk on mixed use trails all the time. You can post about it all you want but the reality is cars are objectively a bigger menace than bikes.

You find some wild stuff in old camera bags
Some boxes for expired film, including Kodak Kodacolor VR 100, expired in 1987, and Focal ISO 400, expired in 1990.

Between them are two corroding Radio Shack Rechargeable Enercell AA batteries.

I don't think calling out a DSA chapter on a bad take is "fighting against" them, I think it can be helpful for them to know that some of their ideas need some more work.
