Well Juventus + the Spanish clubs tried to start the last one; so there clearly is in those pockets of the continent. But I’ve never seen anything in Germany. There’s no appetite at all to sell the family silver to catch the Premier League. bsky.app/profile/terr...

The US politicos have now weighed in. Which means we’re now at saturation point.

Juventus are such an intriguing cautionary tale in European football. Italian football’s financial woes are a good answer to people asking why German football is so fiscally conservative.

Does anyone NOT currently have the cold/flu/COVID in the UK?

A lot of these stories popping up this week. To be expected. And impossible to know how legit they are. But, if anything, it underlines how serious the Premier League are about this Man City case. If you’re going to open Pandora’s box, make sure it’s worth it.

Yeah I’ve got relatives who are literally sons and daughters of refugees who voted for brecit to “stop the boats” or whatever. Cognitive dissonance at its worst.

I’m not over analysing anything. I’m just giving my personal point of view on what I see, based on my experiences.

The man asking the question was absolutely spot on: it’s self loathing. Which is ultimately a tragedy.

You don’t need to consider yourself a white nationalist to be a white nationalist. Anyone from an immigrant background knows family members or friends who’ve seemingly felt the need to overcorrect in an attempt to fit in to society. Which, inevitably, can lead them here.

Thoughts from Germany 2-0 Serbia. This was a huge improvement. Finally got to see some Klopp football. More to come soon for @gegenpressing.bsky.social

Urs Fischer and Union Berlin ultimately became a victim of its own success. But at Mainz, the Swiss tactician may have found the club that’s perfectly suited to helping him reach his goals in the Bundesliga… gegenpressingpodcast.com/p/urs-fische...

Far quicker process with Ronaldo. Unfortunately.

Which is a shame, because I adored watching him in his prime. This must be how all the oldies feel about Matt Le Tissier.

That leaked Ferran Soriano video to Man City staff is 209 seconds long and he doesn’t blink once in it. Which suggests to me that it was made with AI.

Outside the EU, floating closer to the United States with each passing year...

010

And, honestly, would that be so bad?

030

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

In Dan Simmons’ 1989 sci-fi classic “Hyperion” mankind lives in a future alongside AI, where the internet (or the late 80s idea of it) was basically abandoned because AI rendered it useless for humans. With each passing day I feel like we’re approaching that point.

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

All that hope. All that promise. So much celebration. Jürgen Klopp had returned to get Germany back on top. And all we can take away from those first two games is that Konstantinos Karetsas is a tidy player.

But Morocco are better than Germany.

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

An interesting little subplot to the Man City story is how Mr Here We Go has - or hasn’t - covered the story. Look at what he’s posted and how quickly he’s posted it. People can draw their own conclusions, but like I said… interesting.

Nah unfortunately his race is run

000

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

He’s just too inconsistent at this age and the current system still relies on him to be peak Robertson. I’d rather we made a clean break and turned to a younger player for the future

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Decent performance from Scotland. Probably did enough to win the game. Just a little wary of Pocognoli sticking with a lot of the players that were seriously struggling under Clarke: Hendry, McKenna… even Robertson. New manager… but the same formation and most of the same players.

310

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Well, we’re only 20 minutes in but to no great surprise Jack Hendry and Scott McKenna look just as hopeless in a high line as they did in a deep line.

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

In my experience, European countries that play a variety of team sports produce better footballers than countries that don’t.

010

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

And yet they’ve cut us open a few times in the opening 10 minutes… Also: I’d say their interest in basketball and winter sports is an advantage over us. Not a disadvantage.

110

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Nothing fills me with fear quicker than a Scotland qualifier against a similarly-sized European country…

290

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

They paid huge fees and broke transfer records.

110

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

There must surely be some OG Man City fans that kinda want the club to get the book thrown at them so all these anonymous bot accounts in Slovenia or Thailands can stop pretending to care.

5556

Stefan Bienkowski @sbienkowski.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Impossible to overstate Man City’s impact on the transfer market in the last 10-15 years. Not only have they dictated the going rate for top players in the PL but the industrial scale of their scouting & academy network has seen them hoover up hundreds of young talents in that period.
