Just heard a motorcycle scream around a curve in the road right by me and it sounded like the air raid sirens I grew up hearing test once a month. I jumped, but of course, I’m fine. I want that for everyone; to not have to worry if this time it’s real, that it’s the one changing your life forever.

The Kilauea volcanic crater, in the Volcanoes National Park in the Big Island of Hawai’i. It is in eruption, and a lake of lava is visible with a plume of escaping smoke/steam/gasses. There is a certain barren beauty to it, but the point of the picture is pretty clearly “this is peaceful now; that could change at nearly any moment.”

We may have taught too much of the wrong things about the rise of fascism. What the people in power seem to have learned was “they killed critics! And got away with it!” Instead of “there were all these times and places they could have been stopped—and in some places they were!!”
