"Bluesky" is now derogatory. In the comments, they confirmed that "Bluesky" as an adjective meant woke and performative...

I had a great time on Sunday at Byline Fest, organised by @bylinetimes.bsky.social It was amazing to go in person and support @mediarevolution.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy - a project which will hopefully cause a stir here on the OSW! More on that soon 👀 #Bylines #MovementMedia #SocialFuture

An image of a panel sat on a stage at Byline Festival. The talk is titled "Is Trumpland Here to Stay?" and features Katherine Stewart, Antony Barnett, and Peter Jukes.

An image of a title screen being presented behind an empty stage. It reads "Media Revolution. Disrupt the narrative of division, turn the tide on tyranny, join the Media Revolution."

An image of a woman presenting. She points towards a screen which shows Media Revolution in the center of a Venn diagram. The diagram demonstrates the overlap between the terms: regulate, radicalise, resist, and replace.

Had a great time at #DNSummit last Friday representing @newsmastfoundation.org! Huge thanks to @democracynetworkuk.bsky.social for putting it together (and for hosting away from London).

A hall full of people watching a presentation. They sit at round tables.

A person talks animatedly before a projected presentation.

Groups of people are stood talking to one another.

Stickers can be seen lined up on a table. They claim the "Time is now."

I may be back in the UK after FOSDEM but the news, weather, football scores etc are all still in Dutch on my laptop after connecting to my hotspot for ten minutes this weekend. Will it ever recover? Am I cursed to guesstimate the current news of Belgium for life?

A selection of news stories from Belgium in Dutch. Even the settings of the Windows panel are in Dutch.

Finally back in the UK after #FOSDEM! It was brilliant to see so many people in the open social space in person (even if a lot of the tech they spoke about went over my head). If you were there, feel free to reach out! Would love to have more chats.

A full lecture hall. The current slide is on privacy and consent.

I've always found nine, four, and six cropping up in my life. Often in that order, but sometimes not. This is weirdly close to that. Just a few more fives! (Yes, I was late to the party; had to wait for a sprinkle of Fedi). #5,594,954 #Bluesky

Okay really cool from the @bsky.app team It's not just Bluesky accounts that show up in suggested, but Fediverse accounts too. This is The Newsmast Foundation's newsmast.social account.

Accounts suggested for you feature in the Bluesky feed. All accounts are blurred besides the Newsmast account.

Just put this together too which backs up a spike in the UK. Threads and Bluesky both saw a spike in searches in the UK (but the data for the 4th-10th, when there was most activity, is 'incomplete').

I was in Montenegro for the last two weeks and due to the insane cost for mobile data over there I was mostly offline. Coming back into the office today and catching up on everything really shows you how fast the world of social media moves... Anyway, here's some pics!

It's World Otter Day. Otters are one of my favourite animals. If you can, take some time today to look into what you can do to support otters or other semiaquatic mammals. The latin for European otter is lutra lutra, which kind of sounds like a whoop whoop so - lutra lutra! 🦦🙌 #wildlife #otter
