Would a cat picture help? Cat pictures always soothe me (not as much as actually petting a cat, obviously, but that's kinda hard to pass on over the internet), so here's a picture of my neighbour's cat and our nephew who loves to visit for naps.
An orange and white cat snuggling into a very fluffy grey cushion, which itself sits on a red blanket and cream sofa. Ignore my black leggings in the bottom left corner. This cat is very stretched out, looks extremely comfy, and we can't quite see his face because it's so cuddled into the grey cushion fluff. I can confirm he was asleep.

#WeeknightWriters Q6: The Once Upon a Fairytale anthology I'm in has just gone up for pre-order! Features a stolen child, a young woman determined to walk her own path, a mysterious hunter stalking the forest, a jealous enchantress, & 2 girls torn apart by fate 🙌 books2read.com/u/bw6WJ9
The ebook version of the Once Upon a Fairytale anthology lies atop a plain black book surrounded by autumnal leaves. The book's cover shows a thorny red rose against a dark forest background.

Need an easy read for these heatwaves? A Dream of Death and Magic is 99c/99p for a few days! Every book in this series has all the cosy vibes you could want from a dark urban paranormal fantasy (and a MC who struggles with these heatwaves as much as we do). #booksky sarinalanger.com/chaos-of-est...
The cover for the book A Dream of Death and Magic, featuring a metallic upside-down dreamcatcher with blue feathers on a blue background with golden sigils, sits against a sandy beach background surrounded by sunglasses, beach slippers, a starfish, a grey striped beach towel, and a wicker basket.

FOLKS I'm so close to wrapping up the First Big Edit of Esta 4. Only 4 chapters to go. Please ignore the numbering, I'm fixing them as I go 🙃 #writingcommunity
A picture of a simple list of chapter numbers. From top to bottom, it reads, Chapter 19, Chapter 20, Chapter 25, Chapter 26, and Chapter 35. Chapter 20 is highlighted light blue to indicate it's the current chapter. Chapter 35 has three question marks behind it to indicate that we don't know who the narrator is. The writing is white, and the background is dark blue. Thin purple lines separate the individual chapters.

PSA: THIS IS NOT AN I'VE-GOT-15-MINUTES KINDA BOOK I'm much too invested. What do you mean, that's all I've got time for today 😭 #amreading
it's a photo of a hardback copy of Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber. The cover shows a golden door with a flaming heart engraved on it, and the whole front cover is framed by purple and golden I want to say art deco details. The background of the cover is a dark midnight blue with some golden stars dotted around. It's got a very mysterious feel to it. The background behind the book is too blurred to make out properly. A round, red £11 is also stuck to the cover, ruining the feel somewhat. I'm a little sorry I told you about it.

We're planning a writing sprint for July in my Discord server! Come over if you'd like to write/edit/worldbuild/plot with us next month, and possibly in other months, too. (or just to hang out, that's fine, too) Link in bio, or I can message you :) #writingcommunity #writingfantasy
A Discord screenshot of a writing sprint plan for July 2026. The writing is white on a brown background. There's a round profile picture of a smiling pale woman in front of a bookshelf, next to the username framed by two crescent moons.
The text reads: Alright, everyone, let's plan this July sprint, then! rubs hands together

Let me start by saying that I've done this badly, as is tradition - there's no way I'll be ready to write New Epic Fantasy 1 in just a few short weeks from now, and also, I'm actually off July 6-12.

Don't worry, though, this sprint is still on.

Let's decide on a goal we can all stick to first. What would you rather:

party popper emoji 31k words in 31 days
high five emoji Everyone set their own goals, because all our projects differ and we're all at different points
star emoji regular 31k words in 31 days sprints in those months that have 31 days or twice or thrice a year, and regular everyone-set-their-own-goals sprints twice or thrice a year in other months

I'm aware there aren't really enough of us to clearly decide a three-way vote, so please feel free to vote for more than one (but maybe not all three or we may not get anywhere) if you're up for that

Also, feel free to either vote by replying or just by reacting with the associated emoji

#FantasyIndiesJune Day 4: My MC Esta and I are similarly picky: we like being outside if it's not too hot, not too cold, and doesn't rain. Autumn weather, especially with a bit of fog, is perfect. We have hay fever, though, and the outside can be too people-y, so staying at home is pretty great!

I promised you the full anniversary-cover reveal, & here it is! Sparrows turns 10 on the 23rd, so the whole series got a makeover 🥰 These will be live from the 23rd. Next Wed, I'm doing a live celebration and answering questions in my reader group - link in my bio 👍 #writingcommunity #fantasywriter
Three book covers are centred on a soft white blanket, one after the other so all covers can be seen fully. The top book is called Rise of the Sparrows and shows a small bird made of liquid gold perched on a curved dagger. The middle book is called Wardens of Archos and shows an hourglass with golden sand and topped with a melting golden crown. The bottom book is called Blood of the Dragon and shows a dripping dragon made of liquid gold atop broken walls with spears piercing its wings. All three books have background details of black smoke and red embers. The text on the graphic reads 10th Anniversary - 23rd May at the top, and at the bottom is the author's website sarinalanger.com

Checking all the new paperback files today! Isn't this just the most beautiful thing you've ever seen ❤️🤍💛 #writingcommunity #fantasywriter
A screenshot of the paperback wrap for the fantasy novel Rise of the Sparrows, taken in the KDP dashboard. The cover wrap itself shows a small liquid-gold bird above a curved dagger, gold dripping down the blade and onto the title. The background is more liquid gold at the bottom and a swirling combination of black fog and red embers behind the bird and dagger. Behind all that is a white swirling background. The front cover reads Rise of the Sparrows, Relics of Ar'Zac 1, Sarina Langer. The back cover also shows the title at the top, followed by the blurb and the author's QR code and barcode at the bottom. Because the screenshot was taken in a previewer, there are also two lines marking the borders of the front cover, the spine, and the back cover. The inner line is red, and the outer line is white. Not much of the actual dashboard is visible, but above the cover are the words Previewer, the title and author's name again, and the first four letters of the word Paperback before the screenshot cuts it off.

Hey, look, I bought a copy of my own book! 😆 I gave away my copy ages ago, and with the anniversary editions replacing the current ones in a few weeks, I thought I'd better replace it while I still can. I wouldn't have felt right not having it once it's unavailable. #fantasywriter #writingcommunity
A badly lit photo of a paperback book. The cover is mostly black with some lighter swirling fog details. In the centre is a sword depicted length-wise so the glowing gold sigils along the blade are visible. The writing on the cover reads Sarina Langer, Rise of the Sparrows, The Relics of Ar'Zac, Book 1. The bottom left corner shows the hand holding the book, and there's various blurry desk clutter in the background.

A book cover on a white background with thick liquid gold along the bottom and in the corners. The book cover shows a small bird made of dripping, liquid gold atop a curved dagger. The background is a combination of thick whit swirls, black-and-red smoke that evokes fire, and a thinner golden fog near the top right. The text on the cover reads Relics of Ar'Zac 1, Rise of the Sparrows, Sarina Langer. The text on the background above the cover reads Relics of Ar'Zac 1, Cover reveal.

Anniversary cover reveal tomorrow! 🥳 #fantasywriter
A book's cover is partially hidden behind beige torn paper. Only about a third of the cover can be made out in the middle - some gold splashes, the word Rise in flowing gold letters, a sharp white blade not not the hilt, and a background of white and what could be red-black smoke. The words above the hidden cover read Relics of Ar'Zac 1 - Cover Reveal.

Good news! The world-building and character development can continue, I've got new notebooks now 🥰 The top one is the very full one, with extra page stuck in... in several places. The lavender and turquoise ones are new and will hopefully last a while 😅 #writingcommunity
A simple picture of three notebooks stacked on top of each other on a white desk. The bottom one is turquoise, the middle one lavender, and the top one a marbled blue colour. We only see them from the side, so the corners and along their sides a little. In the background above them, a tiny bit of desk clutter can be seen, but it's all too blurred for any of it to be clear or identifiable.

Yesterday, under the cover of Sunday's Nap, my third Problem Child quietly released into the world 🥰 Thank you for being along for the ride! All the glowing reviews for these have certainly made my heart very happy 💜 Thank you 💜 storyoriginapp.com/collections/... #fantasywriter #writingcommunity
All three ebook covers of the Call of Six series by Sarina Langer are arranged on loose and slightly yellowing pages. A sprig of dried small white flowers and large leaves lies to the books' right. All three covers feature the same white female main character with long white hair dressed in black. She's surrounded by spirits in a graveyard, and two snakes wind around her body. The moon is rising behind her on an otherwise dark background of mostly blue-green tones.

Scattered pink-and-white flower clusters on a larger bush, which is showing the first few green leaves. Before it a white hand holds a cup of tea, with the words Hug in a Mug printed on the side of the cup.

#WeeknightWriters I published one last week! 👀 Spirit Court/Call of Six 1 is the first of my Problem Children (named with affection, mostly), and Books 2 and 3 will be out in February & March :) They're part of a shared world, which is a first for me! storyoriginapp.com/universalboo...
A beautifully gothic, dark-magic image featuring the book's cover just off-centre to the right. To the left of the book's cover is a skull, seen slightly turned to the right, sitting on an open book of musical notes with yellowed pages. Behind it is a yellow burning candle with wax dripping down. A red rose and small statuette of a winged gargoyle lie in front of the cover. A burlap sack lies behind the cover. The colours are dark but softened as though softly lit by the candle. The book's cover itself feature a white woman, dressed in black lace, with two snakes around her shoulders and waist. She is in a graveyard and surrounded by spirits. A full moon rises behind her, and the colours are dark blues and greens. The rising moon gives everything a mysterious feel. The text on the cover reads Sarina Langer, Spirit Court, Number 1, A Call of Six Novel. The text on the background reads Out Now, Available in KU, sarinalanger.com

A photo of a fluffy orange cat with white legs, a striped orange and white tail, and a white bib/neck. He's curled up on his side on my legs, his tail wrapped around him and one of his legs wrapped around my leg like he's hugging me. His face is resting on my knee, his eyes closed, his little face the picture of peaceful dreams. Imagine him purring slightly - I believe he was at the time. He's cuddled to a light-grey cardigan and white pajama trousers, but really we're here for the cat's description, aren't we. He's an excellent boy.

The cover in the center features a pale woman with long white hair in a graveyard. She's holding one snake, and another is wrapped around her waist. #LGBTQWriteAThon Day 5 | Catching up since I wasn't here yesterday! Despite my book taking place in early autumn, I couldn't find any mentions of cooler weather, feeling cold, feeling chilly, or indeed autumn, so I found you this mention of Esta literally falling instead XD #writingcommunity
An image of a quote from the fourth book in the Chaos of Esta Anderson series. The background is plain black. The text is white and reads: I remember Saif likening the wider dreamscape to islands amidst a volatile sea that no mortals are meant to cross. That I’d be much more likely to fall into the waves with catastrophic consequences, and I doubt drowning would be my greatest worry.

They probably just mean that. To be fair, it’s a good reason to warn me away. I understand it.

And yet…

That’s not the only reason. I’m sure of it.' The word 'fall' is highlighted yellow. Under the quote is the text A Dream of ? and ?, Chaos of Esta Anderson #4, sarinalanger.com

The yellow logo for the Reading Sparrow podcast makes up the background, consisting of a stack of 4 books, their pages facing the viewer, and a steaming cup of tea on top of the books. The words The Reading Sparrow can be read above the books and cup.

In the foreground, an image of this week’s featured book, Beguiled by Night, is on the left, and a portrait of this week’s featured author, Nicole Eigener, is on the right.

The book cover is a beautiful dark gothic vibe with a skull on a black-wood table surrounded by pink roses and dark green foliage. The title Beguiled by Night is a romantic cursive font.

The author in this image is a white woman with a red fringe, red lipstick, large black-rimmed glasses, a black top, and an elegant pearl necklace. Behind her we can just about see a cream wall to her left, with a painting near the top and what might be a small sunflower-shaped mirror beneath it.

#QueerPrompts Day4: Here's a snippet about friendship (and dogs) from the first book in the Chaos of Esta Anderson series. It's the first mention in the series!
A quote for the #QueerPrompts challenge. Day 4: Friends. The text reads:
"When I wake up, my best friend and found sister Bonnie has already left for uni. Lady is resting her head on my bed with the world’s saddest rottweiler-puppy eyes.
I pretend to be asleep, but Lady doesn’t fall for it. She whines, and I slowly open one eye. She lets out a happy bark and puts her paw on the duvet.
‘What’s that? You want a cuddle?’
She wants a walk, but I’ll take every distraction I can get after last night’s dream, and there aren’t many distractions better than unconditional puppy love. Lady has been a puppy for the last seven years. We have a routine." Good news, folks! IT'S TIME! Our shared-world anthology, Smoke & Shadow, is out NOW! And it's freeeeee 🥳 books2read.com/u/3yy2XZ We've all worked so hard on this, and it's been a long time coming - I think I first signed up for this shared world back in 2022? 😱 #fantasywriters #writingcommunity
An e-copy of the anthology Smoke & Shadow sits nestled amongst white candles, tiny spell ingredient jars of sage, eye of newt, and bone powder, a skull, and some dried hers on a fluffy grey blanket. The text on the book reads Smoke & Shadow - A Call of Six Anthology. The book cover itself shows a cozy attic room with light pouring in from an angled window onto a table packed full of various magic ingredients: candles, a Voodoo doll, an open spell book, a skull atop a tome, and red roses in a vase. The tones are warm and green and give autumnal vibes.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 18 | Look, if ANY mythical creature WANTS to adopt me as their human, I don’t care what they are, we’re family now 💜 (posting early today because I'll be out a lot!)

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 17 | I figured Leverett would take Esta to Anton’s party that ONE time for a romantic evening. Now I can’t imagine this series without Anton and Saif. Honestly, I want an emotional support Anton and Saif, too, they are everything.

If your day needs more joy and cuteness, please look at these two fuzzy-wuzzies on our summer lilac 💜🥺
Two fluffy bees on a bushel of purple summer lilac flowers. Some of its green leaves can be seen on the left, and blurry gravel can just be made out in the background.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 16 | Without Esta as the MC, it’d be a completely different story. Bonnie would never have known the Veiled (=supernaturals) exist, for example, so nothing would have happened. This series wouldn't exist without Esta’s discovery and her adjusting to it.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 15: a line you're proud of | SPOILERS for Books 1-3 of my Chaos of Esta Anderson series. I haven't written a huge deal of Esta 4 yet, but I'm quite pleased with the first few paragraphs :) I cut out the first line, because that would have been very specific spoilers for B3😅
A quote from the fourth book in the Chaos of Esta Anderson series, which is currently being written. The text contains spoilers for the first three books, so don't continue if you don't want spoilers!

The text reads:

'it was neither loss that convinced me to come to therapy. It was when Marvin the Asshole, my new manager, cornered and belittled me, and I silently cried between the bookshelves at work for fifteen minutes.
Funny how the Dreamcatcher and Mara trying to destroy my mind, an angry vampire torturing me in a stolen basement, the loss of my best neighbour and teacher, and my first murder wasn’t enough to push me over the edge, but a few cruel words were too much.
I suppose it was all a bit much for just two months. I think I’ve been numb for a while now.'

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 14 | Bonnie LOVES water and will go swimming any chance she gets, Leverett adores an ancient tome, and Anton and Saif are still SO in love after being married for over 100 years and adore a romantic date night!

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 13 | I'm behind by about a week 😅, so I'll catch up on the last few days at least! Esta 4 will explore how hubris can lead to downfall, and how you’ll miss the truth right in front of you when you see only what you want to see.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 5: Snippet - Humour A lot of the humour in this series comes from Mischief, Esta’s sarcastic dream guide cat - here’s an example from the very first page! I don’t have anything from Esta 4 yet, so this is from Book 1.
A quote from the urban fantasy book A Dream of Death and Magic. The quote itself reads:

I decide the grass is yellow from now on and watch it change. It starts where my feet meet the grass and spreads farther and wider from me until the whole valley is covered.
‘I like it,’ Mischief says. ‘Looks even more like my toilet now.’
I sigh and shoot her a look. ‘You’re not spoiling yellow for me. It’s the happiest colour and you won’t change my mind.’
She slow-blinks at me, and I return the gesture to tell her that I love her, too. Mischief isn’t a real cat—she’s more like a fluffy bundle of shadowy sarcasm, a spirit guide or a dream guide—but I know more than enough about cats for her to behave like one… some of the time, anyway.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 4 I loved my first bedtime-story books for ages. They were fully illustrated, one new story on each page, and I especially remember the one about the ghost who lived in a fountain and changed the water to whatever thirsty passers-by wanted to drink.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 3 | My MC and her chosen-family sister are humans to one rottweiler! There’s also my MC's dream guide 'cat', but… that’s a little more complicated ^-^
