Today I was teaching my students about the Proclamation of 1763, issued by King George III after the Seven Years’ War. It prohibited American colonists from settling on or purchasing lands west of the Appalachian Mountains in an effort to prevent costly conflicts with Indigenous peoples.

see women’s bodies as things to possess, consume, trade, judge, or abuse. Those lessons don’t suddenly begin in college. Boys can encounter pornography and highly sexualized content online long before they have the emotional maturity to understand intimacy, consent, or healthy relationships. 6/

People wondered why the “grab ’em by the pussy” tape wasn’t enough to destroy Donald Trump’s political career. There are obviously many reasons Trump won in 2016. But I keep coming back to one reason that tape wasn’t politically disqualifying: what we heard 1/

Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.” came into my life in the period after 9/11, and I will always associate it with that time. There was something about hearing “tall buildings shake” in a world where I had just watched the unthinkable happen that stayed with me.

We didn’t just lose the Twin Towers that day. We lost a city that will never be the same again. The attack also led to forever wars and so much death & destruction across the globe.

I remember the countless times my family drove into NYC from NJ, Motown on the car stereo, always feeling that soaring wonderment watching the Manhattan skyline. I still hate being in the vicinity of what became Ground Zero. I’ve never been to the memorial.
