Just enjoy it without overanalyzing everything. That’s the plan.

Anyway, I shouldn’t worry, overthink it, or try to aim for the market and monetization. Let’s make things that are genuinely fun and that we enjoy. It’s a hobby, and we have a lot more tools now—and a lot more possibilities, too.

) or I can get it to release in a few months, in a better shape than I could manage on my own. Who’ll play it, and how and where—that’s a whole separate, much bigger problem.

But then again, why not? My lovely mini-RPG concept will either never get made at all (how long would it take—years of evenings spent working on it by hand?

Or rather, for the moment, I can turn all my “dream projects” into something playable. They probably won’t make money (they’re just too niche) in the traditional sense, and there’ll clearly be some kind of battle over using AI in development.

It’s that long-forgotten joy of creating something (okay, I still get to do that at work, too). At the same time, it’s not entirely clear which direction to take as an indie developer now.

Coming up with a feature and designing it, thinking through the player experience, turning it over in my head and looking for problems, putting together a prototype and testing it—all that stuff. And it’s wonderful.

But yesterday I caught myself getting back into game design after 10+ years of programming.

And Claude can handle 95% of the development. What used to take months can now take days, or even hours. On the one hand, that’s unbelievably cool. On the other, it raises so many questions about my place in life that it feels a little surreal.

I know how to work with it, and I can — but something like a Japanese flashcard app or a text-heavy idle settlement sim set in a wasteland would work beautifully with modern web tech: fast, polished, convenient, and easy to expand.

It’s a real dilemma. For most of my ideas, concepts, and projects, I don’t actually need Unreal Engine, much as I love it. #Gamedev #UnrealEngine #Indie #Tycoon #Synthetica

I’ve spent the past week fine-tuning my Shorts factory, where I can cut videos and get them ready to publish.

It’s so great when you can quickly get a dynamic, visual result. So far, this is the best prototype I’ve made in years. #Gamedev #Prototype #WastelandCourier #PostApocalypse #Freelancer

With development moving faster and my capabilities growing by leaps and bounds, my main question is no longer “How do I make this? ” but “How do I get this across to players?

Sure, I still need to go through and edit these little clips, so that’s probably the bottleneck for now. But it’ll happen.

What a time to be alive. You can take old concept docs and prototype them in no time. I worked on this concept over five years ago, and in a week I managed to put together a hovercar with cubes and basic trading. #Gamedev #Prototype #WastelandCourier #PostApocalypse #Freelancer

” But there’s no real rush, and figuring out the direction matters more. I’ll think about it. It’s a weird situation when the game is ready, but now I still have to figure out what to do with it :D

Of course, that immediately takes the project from “it’s all ready, I could release it tomorrow” to “okay, I need at least a couple more months, and then it’ll be the new year, so let’s do it after the holidays.

Okay, worst case, I lose $100 — not exactly the end of the world. But I’d get to experiment with Steam features I haven’t really explored yet: playtests, demos, doing more with traffic, bundles, the Workshop.

Maybe someone will even drop by the Discord afterward, which would already be nice. The option that’s been nagging at me a little since yesterday: maybe I should go through the whole Steam process after all.

Sargonius Games @sargonius.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The lazy option is to put it up for free on itch. It turned out pretty fun, you can play it in your browser, and there’s an hour or two of gameplay if you get hooked.

All that’s left is to sort out the soundtrack, and it feels like the easiest part of this new reality — making the game — is basically done. Now I’m trying to figure out what to do next.

A great plan: iterate on every project a little at a time so you never actually release anything! ;-) I’ve cleaned up the last issues and bugs in Wasteland Life, an experimental text-based post-apocalyptic survival sim. #Gamedev #Indie #WastelandSurvivalSimulator #LifeSimulator #Postapocalypse

Yesterday, I experimented with procedural level generation for Project Apocalypse, since I’m working on the Final Patch anyway. It’s turning out better than expected, but it’s not quite good enough yet, so I’ll keep iterating.

Instead of endlessly debugging the code I wrote over 4+ years ago, it turned out to be easier to rebuild everything from scratch (with some cautious reuse of old parts).

We ran a QA pass on the main systems, identified bugs and inconveniences, and I've already fixed a large batch. However, about a third of the issues are related to various problems with navigation, target selection, combat, and more.
