There's a defeatist vibe rn and I think there's an inevitability feeling washing over us. There is no inevitability. If you're in a position to speak up against the direction the industry is taking, I'd say now is the time to do that. I certainly try because I cannot be fired and it does help!

Have an ACCESSIBILITY.md file in your GitHub repo? It now shows up on the project root! Don't have one? Why not take some time today to create one. #a11y ericwbailey.website/published/gi...

GitHub repository landing pages now show an accessibility tab, if provided
I’m excited to see how people use this new addition to the platform.

Can Your AI Pass The Accessibility Test? is another good read about this, and emphasises including feedback from disabled users. In the era of "synthetic user research", I do worry that developers might use agents in place of user research with real people. www.aaron-gustafson.com/notebook/can...

If you’d have some education budget to blow before end of the year, what #web #accessibility related things would you spend it on? 💸 Any #courses, #books, etc. to recommend? (Conferences excluded unfortunately)

We've been saying for years that WCAG is the floor and it does not guarantee a website is usable by people. 😢 Not to mention AI's technical implementation limitations. Maybe it's not Cassidy's intention but this paragraph makes a11y sound like a fully automatable task, which it isn't.

Thank you for the link! I enjoyed the overall thought behind the post, but this part killed the message for me 'it’s easier than ever to implement things in a “correct” and accessible way with AI tools. You can tell your agents to be WCAG-compliant, and it can just do it'

Funny, one of the reasons I left GitHub is because the powers that be think they can "solve" it by automating it away. That completely ignores the "functional but unusable problem." This creates a scenario where bots can operate something and the people that need the accessible experience cannot.

"When I do generate content using #AI, I find that the requirement to check it for accuracy negates any time saved during the writing part." This has always been my experience with tools that are aimed to do the work on your behalf, including #CSS frameworks (when they were most popular).

In response to “The death of web development education”
I read Mathias Schäfer’s excellent post, titled The death of web development education. I was thinking about how I can contribute to the conversation and really struggled to articulate the problem. The most effective way I can contribute, in my opinion, is a crude sketch I just did of Piccalilli‘s Stripe chart for all time…

Don't get me wrong: I would personally like to have the ability to style the title attribute. But even if I did, I'd rarely ever use it because I rarely ever use the title attribute (only to provide a name to <iframe>s)

I may be missing your point I think. My thinking is that it took long to convince (most, I hope?) devs to not use the attribute because the tooltip is not accessible to all users. Making it styleable is like signaling that the only usability issue was with the visual styling, if that makes sense.

I have 11 specifications and documents open in my browser now as I continue working on what was supposed to be a very simple #accessibility course chapter update, which *is*, as usual, turning into a complete chapter rewrite because of my silly perfectionist brain. 😮‍💨
