We need to end this new ICE surge in San Diego, but more than that, we need to get ICE out of our communities. Their tactics are traumatizing our kids and ripping families apart.

I’ve spoken directly with the FBI and military leadership: there is no increased threat to San Diego. You are safe. But what Donald Trump said last night was dangerous. This illegal war needs to end.

Armed Services YMCA San Diego provides affordable child care for our military families. I’m proud to have secured $2 million in federal funding to support their services and will keep fighting to make sure all of our service members have access to high-quality child care.

I had so much fun meeting these students at Mason Elementary School in Mira Mesa and answering their questions about Congress. (And in case you couldn’t tell – yes, it was Pajama Day!)

It was my honor to congratulate the HOPE Leadership Institute’s 2026 graduating class! These graduates are part of a new generation of Latina advocates and civic leaders in California. Can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish!

Yesterday, I joined a bipartisan Congressional delegation to conduct in-person oversight of the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is currently en route to its home port of San Diego. I spoke directly with sailors, Marines, and leadership aboard the ship. Here’s what I learned. 🧵

Jake Katz founded CareCrewSD as a junior in high school (at my alma mater, Torrey Pines!) to help unhoused and underserved youth in San Diego. He’s done so much to mobilize other students to get involved in our community and I’m proud to honor him as a CA-51 Outstanding Youth!

It was so great to visit these students at Bancroft Elementary School in Spring Valley! I got to make friends with the TK and Kindergarteners and hosted a mini town hall with the 5th graders, who asked so many smart questions about our government.

I visited the new San Diego Family Justice Center, also called Your Safe Place, which provides comprehensive support services to survivors of domestic violence, abuse, and gun violence – including help filing restraining orders to remove firearms from dangerous abusers.

September is National Hunger Awareness Month. Too many of our neighbors are facing food insecurity, especially after Trump and Republicans in Congress cut food assistance programs. I’m proud to support partners like the San Diego Food Bank to help feed our community.

Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans are cowards. Secretary Pete Hegseth should be impeached for his role in waging the reckless, deadly, and illegal war in Iran and Congress should be here to do our jobs.

I was grateful to see so many people come together in El Cajon today to honor the lives lost on 9/11. In the wake of that horrific day, I still remember how Americans responded with selflessness, bravery, compassion, and solidarity. In the darkest times, community is the answer.

Today, I joined USD's annual 9/11 remembrance event with interfaith community members, first responders, and USD students, faculty, and staff to honor the victims of the attacks. May the next 25 years give us all more reasons to gather in hope and solidarity than in grief.

It was great to meet with PATH, which provides critical support services for our unhoused neighbors in San Diego and develops housing that’s affordable across California. In Congress, I’m fighting hard for more federal funding to support work like theirs.

Grossmont Child Care Center is one of many great child care and early education facilities in our community that are funded by Head Start. Trump has continuously attacked Head Start, even threatening to zero it out, but I won’t stop fighting to protect this program. These kids deserve it.

I joined Rep. Scott Peters for a listening session with the disability community in San Diego to hear more about the barriers disabled people face in housing, transportation, and employment and to discuss solutions to make our society accessible for everyone.

The cost of living is the number one thing I hear from San Diegans. I held a town hall with the San Diego Housing Federation to talk about what I’m doing in Congress to fight for bigger, transformational changes and lower the cost of housing for good – for everyone.
