Have you seen this recent article in Nature? It discusses the robustness of 2 models, incl Pangram. I was surprised to learn that Pangram's founders created it because, like us, they were fed up with AI slop submissions, albeit to science journals. Very interesting! www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Thanks for sharing. Sadly, this isn't peer-reviewed research (note the site) & poor science for many reasons, which the authors admit, incl: 1) they scraped posts off reddit, ergo unverifiable "autism", 2) confidence is limited on text under 50wds; 3) they only used GPT-2's AI detector from 2019.. 🤯

So swamped! It's an untenable situation as most journals are volunteer run. The ask for humans to accurately vet hundreds of machine-written stories each month is unrealistic, esp as LLMs improve w/ each update. No one is giddy over the need for AI detectors, except scammers. They're cleaning up! 😩

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm heart sore over how many AI stories are being published right now. I love the lit community, and writers who are actually doing the work of pouring their hearts/souls/sweat onto the page shouldn't have to compete against machines. It's infuriating!

A plea to Lit mags - please check the stories you select for AI. I've been putting some with some 'tells' through Pangram and some highly prestigious lit mags have recently published stories with percentages of suspected AI, including one that is 100% AI!!! #AIslop

Hey lit mag editors. We've been worried about AI companies scraping Split Lip's site to train their models. We just learned that our web host, SquareSpace, has a native feature that allows us to stop some of this. It was quick & easy for our web editor to put in place. I encourage you to do the same
