First night at the new house. Hadn’t planned it - not properly moved in yet - but I am too fucking tired to walk 5 mins home (been cleaning the place for two weeks solid. I won’t go into the details, you might be eating). Garden chair, cardboard box side table, sparkly from @davidwl.bsky.social 🧡🍾🏡

This lil one, eating dandelions in the garden today 🥹

Today is Aortic Dissection Awareness Day. AD is a time-critical condition with catastrophic outcomes if not diagnosed. Paul, like too many others, was misdiagnosed and it cost him his life. The ADCT exists to raise awareness of the condition… 1/? aorticdissectioncharitabletrust.org/could-it-be-...

Today is Aortic Dissection Awareness Day. Know the signs. Sudden, severe chest, back or abdominal pain is a typical symptom of aortic dissection. But some cases are painless or present in unexpected ways. Sometimes the only signs are neurological, such as sudden weakness or collapse.

A few days away on the Llŷn. So many birds - including more ravens than I’ve ever seen in my life. Also heard my very first green woodpecker - astonishingly loud, followed its progress all through the trees along the valley bottom, and could still hear it yelling about 3 fields away. Happy days. 🪶

Big credit to Iraola for the changes. The midfield didn't work last week? Changed it. Fullbacks weren't working today? Changed them. Didn't like the winger combo last week? Changed it. We're going to be fine.

Universe by Yayoi Kusama, 2018. (I love that I can see Paul in two of these photos, we were in That London for a few days to celebrate his 50th.)
Four photos of giant black round paper lanterns, each covered with large polka dots, and packed closely together. They are suspended inside a dark and mirrored room, giving a feeling of an endless space.

Arne’s second season Reds couldn’t fight their way back from a deficit because they had no oomph. These have oomph. It might be a bit rocky in the early days, but I have faith. #LFC

Wish I’d taken more photos of the leaf shadows than the colander - they were v cool.
A shadow of a colander against a wall, showing the solar eclipse in each colander hole. The surrounding leaf shadows are all a bit distorted and odd.

Also many juvenile herring (probably) gulls about yesterday. They got a good share of the bird food, plus some strawberries. They’re less quarrelsome & flappy-abouty than the starlings, but their size means they are terrifying & amazing in equal measure. Also take their lifeguard role v seriously. 🪶
A picture of a seafront promenade. There is a lifeguard station in the background, and lots of juvenile herring (?) gulls in the foreground enjoying a good feed. The gulls are in different stages of plumage, lots of mottled youngsters. There’s the odd pigeon around, too.

The big blue skies of Hightown. I lost my hat somewhere along the way and now have a *very* sunburnt face.
Three photos of very blue skies next to the sea. There are cloud formations and condensation trails coming to a point at the horizon.

Crosby starlings yesterday 🪶Their numbers are massively reduced compared to my previous visits to this site - don’t know if the successive heatwaves have killed them off, or just changed their feeding / behavioural habits. Video by the v patient @gottobedrifting.bsky.social

Went to see Anthony Shapland’s piece ‘Murmur’ this week - it’s on at Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham. Features a gorgeous short film involving several starlings who get up to mischief in the way that starlings usually do. There’s also a handsome naked man involved. All beautifully curated by @m-amcq.bsky.social

My theory of most unpopular animals, including gulls, is that they are unapologetic and confident in human spaces. They aren’t deferent or grateful, they take up space, get annoyed and raid bins. It’s quite admirable given human expansion of habitat but most people dislike this 1/

Lovely day of birding yesterday, lots heard, fewer seen in the dense woods. Did get a glimpse of the lesser-spotted @gottobedrifting.bsky.social though, which is always a treat.

Iraola’s got a bit of a Trump mouth, a little pursed thing, and now I can’t unsee it. #LFC (We need to make sure he is always smiling, because when he smiles he is endearingly toothy and not at all Trump-y. So just win all the stuff, yeah, Reds? Ta.)
Andoni Iraola at a press conference. He is looking down and away from the camera and hit little mouth is a bit Trumpesque. It is unnerving.

If you want to watch a Sam Neill film that will make you go “eh?” and then make you laugh, and then make you cry big blubbering tears, try Dean Spanley. An odd but incredibly warm film about loss and grief. (Go in cold, the less foreknowledge the better.)
