The charming little brick nook into which my cooktop is set. The old cooktop, which was original to the house and had those horrible coil burners, two of which were broken, has been replaced by a black glass electric cooktop. HOORAY.

One of the unreservedly awesome things about living rural as a neurodivergent person is that I'm no longer so constantly overstimulated that I'm stressed and cranky all the time. I'm happy to visit cities and happy to leave. I can move through the world thinking 'Fuck it's good to be alive.'

I am super loving 4x3 and smush, which both scratch the NYT daily puzzle games itch but are made by people I actually want to give my clicks to. Yesterday I suggested a word in smush and it got added to the dictionary!

This baby goat's ears look like this all the time. When she's excited, they get even more floaty.
A light brown baby goat of mixed Nubian and Spanish breeds. Her ears are long and round, like a Nubian's, but float at an improbable 45 degree angle off the sides of her head.

The cats love this partial wall, known in my house as "the up tall," so much it's pretty much worth the whole mortgage.
A picture taken while standing on the floor looking up at a three quarters height wall. The Emperor Theodosius Magnus, Augustus, Fortunatus, et Pius, who is a large black cat with green eyes, is reclining on top of the wall. His head and front paws are visible. He is approximately four feet above my head. He looks pretty happy.

This was pretty much all dirt and mulch a couple months ago. Now hearing the sprinklers drip water off the leaves makes me happy. Water in the desert is a miracle, even though in this case it's a small, human-made miracle. Keep going.
Several garden beds enclosed in a fence. The sprinklers are running and all the plants are happy.

Thought people might enjoy this video, which I took for my mother because her friends asked to see video of "the little baby goats who come running when they hear [my] voice." Made for old ladies I've never met, so unlike most of my videos this one is safe for work and children.

Oh also: Zachary Coffin's Temple of Gravity (pic from the artist's Instagram). 180,000 lbs of stone and metal, simultaneously graceful and solid. Set the bar for what installation art could do for me for a long time.
Two bent metal arches meeting in the center, suspending four enormous slabs of concrete above the playa at Burning Man.

Got a fancy tag for our little space alien
A silicone dog tag with the word DAISY on it. The tag depicts a UFO with a beam coming down toward the word. The tag is attached to a light blue reflective collar. Behind the collar, a relaxed looking golden dog sits patiently.

Important update: no chip, no lost dog posts matching her description. She's ours. She charmed everyone at the vet by offering all of them hugs, even when her paws required two shots of lidocaine so they could go digging around in wounds looking for more foxtails. Welcome to the madhouse, Daisy.
A selfie partially showing a white woman smiling at the camera but primarily showing a gleaming golden dog smiling at the camera. She had her first bath today and she's extra beautiful.

Well, looks like we (provisionally, until our posts in local lost pet groups and the vet check doesn't find a chip) have a new dog. This weekend has been insane.
A phone selfie of part of a white woman in a blue coverall but mostly a beautiful golden white dog in the back seat of a car. She has short, businesslike ears and her paws are oversized, both because she's not fully grown and because her feet are swollen from the number of foxtails and burrs that were crammed into them. It's hard to tell from this picture, but she's significantly underweight, probably about a 2 on the Purina body condition scale. We speculate that she was wandering in the desert for a couple of weeks.

The lizard seeker
A large black and tan dog with silly little lop ears stands on her back legs with her front paws on the second board of a three board wooden fence. She is starting intently at the wall of an open horse shelter, where a lizard passed recently. She is grinning. Her tail is a perfect circle.

Yesterday I bought this little guy just because he was wearing a seed hat, which I'm sure is lucky, like when a human baby comes out wearing the caul. #firstYearGarden

Deeply touched by this very personal email from Margaret Atwood, so identified by the email address, the signature line "Canadian author of The Handmaid's Tale," and, most helpfully, the photo of Margaret Atwood.

In my medium nib era for my writing log and that means I get to break out all the fancy inks
A close up image of a partial page from my writing log notebook, turned to the May page. The page is written in a brick colored ink mottled with gold shimmer. It's Birmingham Pen Company's Lava Rock Twinkle.A drop of the same ink on a manuscript page. The gold glitter has accumulated in the center and the red bleeds out around it like a sunburst.

The real reason is because a @peculiarityshop.bsky.social piece can make every photo a thirst trap.
A close up selfie of a white woman with shaggy brown hair in a tank top. Her lower face and chin are visible, lips slightly parted. She is wearing a strand of pearls the color of old blood on an oil slick, separated by copper beads. This picture makes you want to capture and hold her attention.

Continuing my tradition of acquiring weird art while on trips
The Angel of State Route 37 by Simon Underwood. A small hand drawing of a car stopped on a highway in front of a strange apparition/growth. It looks like coral or fungus. It appears to have two big wings. The car's headlights are on and the passenger door is open, implying someone has abandoned the car in a big hurry.
