When I was still at school we couldn’t wait get a Saturday job because it gave us a bit of cash and it was invaluable experience. We all did retail jobs in department stores or supermarkets. I always speak to everyone who I come across in a service role and ask how they are and thank them.

Do you get the 7th Heaven brand over there? I like peel off/wash off masks better than the sheet ones because they feel weird and annoying and don’t stay on. You can get a 7th Heaven bumper pack with lots of different types so you can pick and choose. They also do hair masks and foot masks

In case you didn’t know, there’s an option in the disputes page to flag duplicates. I found it when I looked on mine (no disputes but I had a poke around) and my pen name was lurking at 0%. I didn’t want to risk anyone trying to impersonate me so I flagged it as a duplicate of my legal name.

No idea if that’s correct but my publisher quotes it on the annual tax filing she sends me. It’s clear that processing claims from non-US residents is something the administrators have completely overlooked!

The advice I’ve seen mentioned is to email the administrator and tell them you can’t complete the form as you don’t have a US tax ID. That is what some who called for advice have been told. I have an id (an ITIN) I was advised to get by my publisher to avoid double taxation so I’ve entered that 🤷‍♀️

Hello! I am seeing elsewhere that the administrators have advised non-US residents to email the administrator address and tell them you can't complete your from online because you don't have either an SSN or ITIN because you are a UK resident and tax payer. Might be worth at least trying that.

It's a slightly different format to the TIN number but I have put that in and it accepted. It is quoted by my publisher on the annual tax return they send me and I also managed to dig out a copy of my original registration certificate if there's a query from the administrators about it.

I have an ITIN registration number with the US Treasury that I was advised to apply for by my US publisher when I signed the contract. It exempts me from being double taxed so I have never had tax deducted at source by my US publisher and I declare all the income here in the UK and pay tax on it.

Loads of publishers have messed up (that’s my most generous interpretation). Definitely reach out but also assert your rights on the form. You can upload your contract and adjust the claim to 50/50 - you shouldn’t have to but it’s a mess and the publishers are not covering themselves in glory.

There was an explanation on page 6 of the claim form detailing rights splits - if a publisher still holds contracted rights the default was a 50/50 split unless contract states otherwise. The form is on the settlement website if you want to read in full and check your entitlement

Yeah I hear you on that. I paid for my TIN and the cost of the advisor when I signed my first contract, and registered and paid for copyrights before I realised it was all costing me more than my books were ever going to make. It's all such a mess from start to finish.

I'm not American either but I paid for a specialist tax advisor to help me register for a TIN on advice from my very small indie US publisher so that I could get paid gross by them and declare those earnings here in the UK along with the rest of my income so I get taxed once in my resident country
