Fwiw I think the metaphor is nonexistent since my kid loves trains and his therapist knows that 🚂 but I still find the perspective funny.

My kid’s speech therapist just got back from leave after getting married and he wanted to give her a card. This is what he drew…

That’s right! At a parks program I learned they were once eaten by giant sloths 🦥 … but those aren’t in Ohio these days, so they mostly hang out on the ground until squirrels get *really* hungry. (Not good eating)

We are going to a "pumpkin rosary" tonight, which is a new thing for me! Maybe there will be some bats around, too :)

“The Bat,” Jane Kenyon 🦇
The Bat
by Jane Kenyon
I was reading about rationalism,
the kind of thing we do up north
in early winter, where the sun
leaves work for the day at 4:15

Maybe the world is intelligible
to the rational mind;
and maybe we light the lamps at dusk
for nothing...

Then I heard the wings overhead.

The cats and I chased the bat
in circles—living room, kitchen,
pantry, kitchen, living room...
At every turn it evaded us

like the identity of the third person
in the Trinity: the one
who spoke through the prophets,
the one who astounded Mary
by suddenly coming near.

New rule: in October, you’re allowed to substitute in a bat wherever the Holy Spirit is depicted as a dove.

The author used to be a buyer for Hammons, a major black walnut processor/distributor here in the US, so he really does have the scoop. 🌰 🌳

I’m willing to overlook “secret history” which normally drives me nuts in titles because 1) publishers want to sell books and 2) it’s literally about clandestine actions.
