Besides the rat on the side, there are two images: a crowded cemetery scene from a 14th-century manuscript describing the Black Death; and an outline map of Arizona, showing the counties were plague is already enzootic (persisting in rodent populations).

An excellent event at the Seamus Heaney Homeplace, with a focus on the bog-preserved remains found in Bellaghy in 2023. Now revealed to be an Iron Age young woman, it’s been fascinating to hear about the research by a range of experts, coordinated by my colleague, Niamh Baker.

This is the nub of the article that I disagree with. Sticking to the evidence *requires* picking a side on many issues that should never have been politics but now are: climate change, vaccines, public health... Staying neutral denies the science and that can't be scientific or right.
