3 Contexts for #KMT's new chair Cheng Li-wun in #Taiwan, a 🧵: 1. A former DPP activist, Cheng is more mass-movement experienced than most existing KMT leaders, making her more outspoken and presentable than her rivals during the KMT chairperson election. (1/4)

Hi #polisky, asking for myself, what would be the ANES equivalent survey(s) in Japan and South Korea? For Taiwan, I have been using TEDS very often, and I have always been wondering if there are any parallel surveys beyond ABS for further observation.

Regarding the recent legislative aggrandizement attempt in Taiwan where KMT-TPP majority passed bills by force w/o deliberation, the worst thing I saw is that some lawmakers who drove the whole thing are law scholars: they knew how it hurts more than anyone, & they still did it.

How strong is South Korea's democracy?
The big lesson from the recent tests of democratic resilience in South Korea is that any democracy can be at risk.

Just wrapped up my dictatorship class with a debate on whether voters should value competency or democratic compliance when electing a political leader. They brought up what they've learned and we ended with some interesting interactions. Can't end a course better with this.

This is not my first time to encounter this but I still find it hilarious whenever a university wants to hire someone to teach things beyond the US (IR/CP/Area or Global Studies) but would screen out candidates who require a visa sponsorship.

#RPVSky I recently taught a workshop on how we can develop a sustainable writing practice. This is what a sustainable writing practice looks like, for me. I wanted to bring this to your attention as today is December 1st, and we all start making plans for the remainder of the month.
For me, a sustainable writing practice consists of three elements:
1. A system that works for you: (I write 3-5 days a week, 4:00-6:00am)
2. A structure of work that is feasible: During my writing hours, I focus on WRITING, not other stuff.
3. A piece of writing output that is doable: I focus on ONE Memorandum, nothing more (or a revision component, etc).

I don't watch baseball but this scene of premier 12 final where the captain of Taiwan framing his chest after hitting a three-run homer against Japan really touches me. Playing the only team in premier12 who was forbidden to have country name on jersey, he is reminding the world of his nation.
