Jingle Dress Dance is a Native North American women's pow wow dance. The regalia worn for this dance is the jingle dress, which includes ornamentation with multiple rows of metal cones that create a jingling sound as the dancer moves.
The origin of the jingle dress is attributed to three different Ojibwa communities: the Mille Lacs, Red Lake Band of Chippewa, and the Whitefish Bay Ojibwe. The most common narrative surrounding the jingle dress involves a grandfather who, while seeking a way to heal his granddaughter, received a vision. This vision included the design of the dress, the specific sounds it would make, and the dance steps to be performed. The jingling sound of the cones as the dancer moves is a key element of the dance and is believed to have a powerful spiritual and healing effect. While rooted in Ojibwe traditions, the jingle dress dance has spread to other First Nations and is now a common sight at powwows across North America. Contemporary jingle dresses, introduced in the 1980s, are made from multi-coloured fabric decorated with tin jingles, originally made from lids of chewing tobacco cans, but now frequently constructed of other metals. The original dresses were crafted with rows of metal cones, traditionally made from tobacco tin lids, attached to the dress. The jingle dress dance is not only a healing ritual but also a celebration of community and cultural pride.

It’s time for #MountainMonday A different view from the mountain I hike most days. Binevenagh, it’s not big but it sure has great views. #Ireland #NorthernIreland #photography #EastCoastKin
A dramatic landscape featuring a rugged cliff edge in the foreground, overlooking a vast expanse of green fields and rolling hills. The sky is overcast with moody, textured clouds casting diffused light across the scene. In the distance, a flat-topped mountain rises against the horizon, and beyond that, a glimpse of the sea is visible under the cloud-covered sky. The overall atmosphere is serene and wild, evoking the beauty of untamed countryside.

The Dong people, also known as Kam people or Dongzu, are an ethnic minority group in China, mainly residing in Guizhou province, as well as in neighboring Hunan and Guangxi provinces. They are famous for their "bright cloth," also called liangbu.
The Dong people are known for their "bright cloth," which is made through a unique process of dip-dyeing, drying, and hammering. This cloth has a shiny, almost metallic, appearance and is waterproof. The final step in making their clothing is to starch the cloth with glue made from cattle skin so that the fabric is made durable and the color is made fade-resistant. The brightness of the cloth will vary, depending upon the duration of crafting and beating. The more it shines, the more precious the cloth is deemed to be.Women typically roll their hair into a bun or coil and use silver hairpins. They may wear pleated skirts or trousers, often with leg wrappings. The process of creating the cloth is painstaking and exacting. The raw cotton is harvested from Dong farmland, cleaned, and woven into cloth. The Dong women mix indigo plants with lime water to make dyestuff. The cloth is dyed, then washed. After the cloth dries, it is again dyed and washed. This process may be repeated three or four times before the color is deemed to be perfect. Then persimmon peels and chestnut shells are pounded into liquid and Ardisia crenata is added to the juice. Again, the cloth is dyed, and a deep blue with radiant rosy accents is achieved. After again drying, the cloth will be folded, coated with egg white, and intermittently beaten with a mallet over the course of two weeks until the cloth shines.Dong women tailor the cloth in particular ways. Crafting a Dong girl's skirt, with its accordion pleats, is especially time-consuming. From the weaving of the cloth to completing the dress requires almost six months and dozens of procedures.Today, due to the complicated and arduous process, Dong girls are not so inclined to make their own clothes. Many girls have completely dropped the practice and wear casual clothes purchased downtown.

My 23-year-old Miao guide had a crush on a 17-year-old Gejia girl named Ms. Yu Xiaoying. It was raining when we arrived at her home and continued all day. Her mother agreed that I could photograph her. My guide asked if he could date Ms.Yu❤️ She told him to ask again when she turned 18.☺️
Ms. Yu Xiaoying allowed me to photograph her in the rain. The Gejia wear a unique costume and speak a language unintelligible to surrounding communities. My young Miao guide could speak her dialect. My guide and Ms. Yu conversed through the photographic shoot. She laughed and giggled continuously. It must have been a language of love. The Ge language - which has six tones - is a member of the Western Hmongic branch, similar to some Miao varieties spoken in Yunnan.Inside the home, the fire had just gone out. The Ge Jia are expert embroiderers using rich coloured threads - usually of silk - as well as artists with the wax knife creating very fine white and indigo fabric using a wax resist. The Chinese authorities classify the Ge Jia as a Miao sub-group but they like to think of themselves as a separate group.Ms. Yu is a beautiful young lady. Her colourful clothing is worn daily as well as special attire for festivals. Very little is known about the Gejia apart from the fact that they specialize in batik and silver. I was very fortunate to have this opportunity because of my guide to photograph her.
