Same thing with gig tickets. Bots already fight to get Glastonbury tickets and the like. That will get so much worse. A lot of things depend on friction to work well. Being an early adopter of AI agents is gonna be a lot better than when everyone has one

Some unintended consequences I suspect the rise of AI agents will create: 1. Restaurants that only take reservations by hand written letter, or more likely, don't take them at all. 2. Gigs where you can only buy tickets in person. 3. Businesses that operate without websites.

In a way, one of the "luckier aspects" of llms are that their answers are formed on the views of people who care to write about the world they are in, which might overall (though many exceptions can be found) not be the worst crop around.

1) the use of AI truly erodes essential skillbuilding that would otherwise generalize into other domains 2) this is like us losing the ability to orient ourselves well in nature, after the invention of maps, a bit sad but in the end freeing up brainspace for other things we now need in the world.

I really dont know how to think about results like this, and for that matter about how to redesign our education systems in general, with the advent of AI. Basically my mind gives me two opposing narratives: 👇 cepr.org/voxeu/column...

On the one hand it opens up space to diagnose and talk about conditions that would have previously been wiped under the rug, often to the detriment of those having to deal with it. On the other hand constantly overapplying a pathological lens to everyday life can have its own negative consequences.

Sander Wagner @sanderwagner.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I particularly struggle with the tensions around "concept creep". On the one hand we are clearly starting to increasingly use pathological and medical vocabulary around things that we would have previously described as emotions or character traits, which has so many different consequences.

Important to note that many of the diagnoses that have started to fall under the term "autism" in the last two decades as the definitional tent has expanded, do not in fact display the genetic footprint of what is now called "severe autism" that is analyzed here.

What are the long-term consequences of the (up to the late 90s) rising sex-ratios in China for parents? Fathers of sons keep working up to higher ages and have reduced well-being relative to those of daughters, driven by high marriage costs and reduced old-age support.

This is not the main contribution of the work, but I still find it fascinating to see (from todays' perspective) how much higher US lifespans were than Europeans' back then and that the healthy migrant paradox did not always hold in its most extreme form (migrant living longer than destination avg).

This work looks at the lifespan of 1850-1890 migrants to the US and compares it to average lifespan in the origin and destination country. Migrants lived longer than their peers at home but shorter than Americans back then, but this is driven by certain groups. read.dukeupress.edu/demography/a...
