Coaxed my dying camera battery into a couple more shots at the end of a New Year’s Eve walk in the cold. Did not get frostbite! Probably should find some gloves I can wear and still use the camera… Fujifilm XT-5 / XF100-400mm + 1.4x teleconverter

A lesser goldfinch perched on a length of dead, dry plant cane. It’s cold out, the plant is covered in frost, and there are bits of frost crystal on the bird’s beak.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Tried my hand at dyeing some sneakers! Cactus Plant Flea Market Air Force 1s dyed with Rit DyeMore.

A white Cactus Plant Flea Market collab Air Force 1 sneaker in a shoebox. The word “AIR” is overlaid on the side of the sneaker in large lettering.

The same sneaker, now on foot, standing on a mossy rock. It’s been dyed a tangerine orange, with oversized yellow laces. The different panels have picked up the dye differently, so the “AIR” letters, swoosh, and toe are darker, but the panels behind the lettering have remained lighter.

The opposite sneaker now, showing “SUN” in large letters, which are the first part of “SUNSHINE” wrapping around the shoe.

An indoor picture of the sneakers, taken with flash, demonstrating that there’s a reflective layer outlining the letters.

The local nature preserve was full of these guys swooping around and screaming their little hearts out. Really pleased with the performance of the slightly goofy setup I was trying out: Fuji X-T5 with a Canon 135mm f/2L + Fringer adapter + Fuji 1.4x teleconverter all stacked up.

A red-winged blackbird on a branch. The bird is directly facing the camera and is mid-call, so he’s all puffed out, and both red patches are visible like epaulettes.

If you would like to anthropomorphize some ducks, I took a great pic for you 🦆

A pair of male and female northern shoveler ducks. The male is in focus standing in the foreground with a vacant expression, while the female is slightly out of focus behind him, mid quack. One could choose to project various relationship dynamics on them if one so desired.

I just finished “The Dawnhounds”, and it is one of the most stunningly inventive and entertaining things I’ve read in a while. Dove straight into the sequel, cannot wait to see where things go ❤️

I suppose I should post this, because otherwise how will I remember that I was early but not *that* early to this particular party? Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #299,878!

Loving suede sneakers in the PNW is a struggle, but then you hit a gorgeous spring day and bring your favorite pairs out of hibernation and it’s a deep joy

A pair of brightly colored Nike dunks on feet. The sneakers have bright pink panels with electric yellow piping around the toe, heel, and swoosh, combined with light blue suede on the sides and top of toe, and black suede lace guards with yellow laces. White midsole, black outsole. Cuffed grey pants and pink, blue, and yellow socks that match the sneakers. Standing on a sidewalk with greenery behind.

Some good birds from the local wildlife refuge. Playing around with the Fujifilm 70-300mm (plus 1.4x teleconverter on the first shot).

A small bird (a golden-crowned sparrow) sitting on a tree branch. The bird is light brown with black markings on its wings and a subtle yellow patch on its head. The tree has thin branches with clusters of green leaves. The background is softly out of focus, light green and gold and grey, golden hour lighting.

A pair of starlings sit on a tree stump. The birds are dark with bright speckles and yellow beaks. The background is out of focus vegetation in warm light.

An even smaller bird than the first bird (American Bushtit) perched on a vining plant. The bird is brown and grey, the plant has brown woody vines with clusters of green leaves.

A different golden-crowned sparrow, this one sitting on a branch covered in lichen, in front of more dappled grey and green branches and leaves.

Some shots from a beautiful Sunday morning at Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden.

Wide shot of soft pink magnolia blossoms against a blurred forest green background. The tree has twisted branches covered in bright green moss.

Picture of the top of a white wall with an ornate, dark tiled cap. A single fern is growing from the top of the wall, and there are out of focus trees behind.

A potted penjing (Chinese equivalent of bonsai) tree in front of a rock formation. The pot is brown with delicate gold decorations showing a bird and flowers. The tree has smooth brown bark and clusters of dark green needles. It grows up and out to the right, hanging over the side of the pot.

A roof tile shot from behind, mostly in silhouette with a fringe of bright green moss growing around the edge. The out of focus background has green foliage and pink flowers.
