iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Sorry, dudes. No Inktober for me this year since I'm going to be busy with life and developing the upcoming webcomic series.

I updated some of the in-universe sneaker logos for Shibuya Brawlers. The "WARUI" (meaning "bad" in Japanese, a fictionalized version of Puma) is reserved for the antagonist group Wild Mondo. #art #webcomics #shibuyabrawlers

In-universe sneaker logos for the webcomic series Shibuya Brawlers, most of which have the SAMURAICORY name

I wanted the main male protagonists in my webcomic series to be brave and precocious like Magi's Aladdin. Ultra-baggy clothes and oversized sneakers with untied, chunky shoelaces are my recurring themes for my characters.

As you may or may not know, Tapas is shutting its doors on March 31st of next year. The webcomic series will be on GlobalComix instead, with a Webtoon Canvas and Webcomic Studio mirrors.

The main protagonists and antagonists in the webcomic series will not be wearing high-top sneakers for practical reasons. They will be wearing low-top sneakers instead, which follows the themes of lighthearted action/adventure and martial arts in an urban setting.

NEW ADVICE-FROM-LIEBER LIST! I've posted these tips as a thread before, but I figured it's about time I made it available as a single, shareable image.

MISTAKES I'VE MADE THAT YOU CAN AVOID
Don't be like me.
1. Don't trash your own work when complemented. In that context your self-deprecation is insulting someone else's taste! Just say thanks and change the subject. Maybe credit an influence?
2. As far as your readers are concerned, comics are drawn with a printing press or a monitor. Don't fetishize the original art or the tools you make it. Anything that gets the story told the way it needs to be told is the right tool for the job.
3. Don't use one job to audition for another. It's unfair to your collaborators and a betrayal of the reader to get flashy or sexy or explosive if the moment in the story doesn't call for it.
4. The important storytelling choices on a page can be worked out in thumbnails. Gesture, camera angle, framing, broad arrangement of tones-get this stuff right before you worry about anatomy, lighting, drapery, or facial expressions.
5. Some artists can put down a final inkline with no underdrawing, but that's because they're skilled and experienced enough to do all that underdrawing in their head. You probably aren't. Get your underdrawing right and save the masterstrokes for the masters.
6. What you're feeling while you work doesn't matter. What the audience feels when they read it does. You can be happy and still do a great drawing of someone in agony. You should understand what you're depicting. It's not necessary to experience it in real time at the board.
7. Get a fresh eye on your work. You never know when some accidental juxtaposition is going to completely change your intended meaning.
8. Don't let getting things 100% right keep you from getting things done. It's easy to get bogged down in research or prep sketches. Make a schedule at the start of a project so you know how much time you have. Do the best you can with the time allotted and move on. But...

I’m a bit late to the party but, Happy 33 Years Amy Rose! Amy is a character I will always hold in my heart. She displays kindness, strength, and was one of the first female characters I saw that showed me that femininity was not weakness. I will always love her. Every version of her!

Until I get the okay from Webtoon Canvas, Shibuya Brawlers will not be allowed on it there unless I pass their mandatory questionnaire, since many of the characters will have the Barbie Doll anatomy and will use mild profanity.

Hayato and June from Star Gladiator Don’t mind him just giving his girl a ride home after toppling a Nazi space empire #PlasmaSword #StarGladiator #capcom

Hayato and June riding through space on his bike (at least I think, the opening to plasma sword looks like Hayato is riding through space on his bike)

Just a lil tidbit about this piece it’s meant to reference the shrek and frieren bike meme but that’s actually a reference to the 1995 noir flick Fallen Angels….

So Fallen Gladiator

I'm surprised that Tapas didn't die earlier, but I am sad to see that it is shutting down at some point. There's no definite date on when it will shut down. www.patreon.com/samuraicory/...

Like many of you, I saw the writing on the wall that Tapas will be shutting down. To be completely honest, despite taking a long hiatus due

Heard that Tapas is shutting down. Shibuya Brawlers will sadly not be released on Tapas. The webcomic series will be released on GlobalComix and Webcomic Studio instead.

I have made the ultimate decision to permanently leave the US for Japan in the fall of next year. The ultimate decision of permanently leaving the country hasn't come easily.

I rewrote the plot for the upcoming webcomic series to make it less gritty and more lighthearted, since the webcomic series is about the main characters who go against a powerful crime syndicate who attempts to destroy the world after a failed apocalypse.

Lovely day. I didn't get creative yesterday because I had to upgrade to macOS 27 on my Mac mini and iOS 27 on my iPhone. Today is also Colleen O'Shaughnessey's 55th birthday. Time to get creative.
