So, to me, the people talking about why they need to go back to X, even if I understand their reasoning, come across as scabs. And I have no respect for scabs crossing the picket line. Have some self respect and stand for something.

You can't build a better internet if no one participates. And, so the people loudly announcing they're going back to X, strike me the same way that scabs crossing the picket line do: the rest of us our out here holding the line to create a better world. And you're just deciding "fuck it, too hard."

A thing conservatives used to understand is that “virtue signalling” is in fact an essential social function. It CAN be frivolous & self-indulgent, but you do actually need people to conspicuously perform adherence to good social norms.

I was browsing sport coats from Jos A Bank last night, and now today they're all $50 more. I can't tell it it's some kind of surveillance pricing, or if it's some holiday weekend sale that ended.

Also, kinda think that in times like this, signalling "virtue" should, in fact, be seen as a good thing, as opposed to those who are proactively signalling corruption, bigotry, hatred, and nihilism.
Criticism of continued journalistic use of Twitter gets dismissed as "virtue signaling," but I really don't think it's a huge ask for folks employed in the factual information business to lead by example and maintain some fleeting semblance of integrity and ethical self awareness in the authoritarian era.

Interesting how the media keeps referring to the AI companies as "labs" as in "a model escaped the lab.." or "research at the labs shows that..." 'Lab' implies a place where experimentation and 'accidents' understandably might happen. Y'know, like Ebola or Covid. A 'company', on the other hand […]

A little bit of #hygge this morning. #Candles #Stroopwafel #Coffee
A candle and a coffee mug in a windowsill. The candle is in an orange colored glass, the flame only visible through the glass. The coffee mug is mostly off-white with black speckles. It has the words "UPSTATE OF MIND" on its side in black letters. On top is a golden brown colored stroopwafel.

The "Party of Reagan" has the United States siding with Russian aggression against NATO allies and a brutal war on a European democratic US partner. Yes, the whole party. If they didn't, they would impeach and remove the president who is blatantly breaking US law to help fund Russia's war effort.
