Apparently it's Star Trek day, or so the internet tells me. Been a fan since I was a kid watching the original series reruns on network TV. Here are some OS monsters drawn back in 2020. The Mugato, the Salt Vampire, Yarnek, and a couple of Gorns. Ink with gouache accents, on 9x9 inch toned paper.

Still mulling over Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, but I'm leaning toward considering it a valiant effort that didn't quite get there. Some interesting visuals, including matte paintings, though I'm not sure it's 100% AI free. Great performances by Anderson and Einbinder, though.

It's Jack Kirby's birthday! He was largely responsible for creating the very language of superhero comics and no one ever did it better. His essence is still influential, even today. In his honour, here's a few sketches I've done of some of his greatest characters.

Roughing out some new convention sketches. Lady Death, He-Man and Skeletor, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Primal's Spear and Fang. K-Pop was roughed out digitally in Photoshop, the rest in pencil on 8 1/2x11 bond. I tweaked Spear and Fang a little in PS.

It's Canada Day! In honour of the celebration, here's an old drawing of Canada Jack, a wartime hero from the 'Canadian Whites', comics printed without colour during war shortages of US comics. Created for the publisher Educational Projects, by George Menendez Rae in 1942. Drawn in 2009.

A poster based on my short comic story 'Star Calf', in which a cowboy ends up raising something rather stranger than a herd of cattle. From back in 2012 Brush and ink on Strathmore Bristol, digital colours.

A herd of tentacled otherworldly Lovecraftian creatures hover in the air near an old west cowboy on horseback on a mountain ridge. The horse and cowboy are pocked with lesions, and may no longer be alive in the usual sense.

My illustration for my short story Deep Woods, which appeared in the anthology collection "Cauldron: Forbidden Appetites" in 2024. Inked and coloured digitally over a detailed pencil drawing.
