One of the things I love about Icelandic is how easy it is to make up words by just cramming other words together to make a new one. The word "kjörklefakúkari" for example, means "a person who poops inside voting booths" and yes, we have that word for a reason.

I gave out milkweed seeds last Halloween (yes I gave out other treats, I'm not a monster) to help provide monarch habitat. Plant native plants! They grow really well and are very beautiful and are adapted for your climate so they need less work.

When people say "save the bees," in the US we really need to include native bees, which do not include honeybees. Honeybees are invasive. They are not the worst invasive species out there; they have positive effects as well as negative. But they're invasive.

We need to stop using “invasive species” to mean “non-native” and start using “non-native” for that so that we can use “invasive” to mean “non-native species with a tendency to overrun ecosystems and damage natural biodiversity”. Half of the things in our gardens are non-native and most are fine.

When I was signing up for a pension plan in 2017 at a very large employer, you first select your title (Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr), then enter your name in the boxes, then birthday, then gender (M, F, "other"). Except...choosing Dr. as a title auto-selects M. If you choose F, it eliminates Dr. as an option.

The “right to exist” of a state is “overused as a propagandistic defense” in this case in that it involves a *category error* whereby we ascribe something properly applied to persons to the state in question. This confuses the terms of discussion, and *ought* to be rejected at the outset.
