I had a lot of fun in Las Vegas again this weekend and aside from being with friends, seeing a good show, and generally carousing, what I always enjoy about that place is I can strike up a conversation with strangers at a table or bar and it is inevitably pleasant and fun for the duration.

A few years ago the el Cortez casino was a charming dump with authentic “old school” decor and a crusty clientele. They have successfully partnered with YouTube gambling influencers (and tarted up) and rebrand as THE cool place to gamble downtown and it REALLY worked.

The first casino I gambled in was some off strip dump. I was 19 and couldn't have had more than $20 but they instantly gave me beer and a pack of cigarettes and it feels like I played for hours. i think that set me on a bad path.
