I interviewed several ex pupils online for Exam Nation. When I finally met Conrad Landin again last night my first words were ‘you’re tall!” It’s lovely that so many have popped up - and my own teachers have got in touch too. Never forget how long you live in the minds of those you teach.

But there’s a serious point. Jonathan Haidt’s book ‘the anxious generation’ has been seized on as being all about banning phones (no bad thing). But it makes a better case for free play. Unstructured time. Letting kids be kids. Letting them make mistakes. School has to be designed to allow that. END
