Moving back to my old workspace this week feels good. Glad to have the ability to stand again.

I listened to a Vergecast episode talking about party speakers on my walk this morning, and now I’m seeing them everywhere and getting ads for them. 🔊

Anybody else doing their coding on Linux? I recently converted an older Mac Mini into a Fedora Linux desktop, and I love using it! I find myself far more productive on it than my MacBook.

My job uses a web based phone system that only accepts number digits and does not accept ( ), -, . or spaces. I made a proof of concept web app to automatically remove everything but the digits from phone numbers, and allows you to copy to clipboard. A totally unnecessary but fun side quest.

I’ve stumbled, failed, and strayed from many paths—starting, stopping, and restarting over and over. I’ve made commitments I couldn’t keep and come close to so many finish lines, yet never crossed them. For years, I called myself a failure—and that mindset is still my greatest struggle today.

Solid day: Had an awesome coffee chat this morning and could have easily talked for a lot longer! Found a Texas Longhorns baseball hat for my son's birthday. Finished up the 100 Devs Appwrite stream. Going to play around with it some more tonight.

Most productive day so far this year: - attended the Dadsin Tech meetup hosted by @tdesseyn.bsky.social - had lunch with a dev I met at CYC who was in town - got some hands on with Appwrite by watching @leonnoel.bsky.social’s recent Twitch stream Today was a reminder that I love this community!

I’m back! Sorry to have disappeared. It’s been a busy start to the year after I took on a second job to help some friends and their small business. It’s starting to wind down and I’m eager to get back into code this week.

I’ll be working the next 3 days so I’m challenging myself to get up earlier to get in at least an hour of coding before logging in for my shift. Today I was learning about hamburger menu styles that I can use on my upcoming portfolio site. Using this great site for svg icons. phosphoricons.com

Had an awesome virtual coffee chat with @dallaslove.bsky.social. We scheduled 30 mins for it but ended up talking for an hour! We chatted about #100devs, conferences/meetups, communicating a career change to family, projects, and, of course, coffee.

Hey #100devs friends, it is a privilege to be able to attend a conference in person. In Leon's huddle today, doing a virtual meetup/coffee chat was brought up. If you want to connect with me to do something virtual, you're welcome to send me a message. I'm happy to chat about what you're working on.

Solid Sunday. Rested up this morning, restocked my coffee and bagels, and got some dev time with @scrimba and some project planning for 2025.

My first tech conference was a blast! I met so many wonderful people both in the industry and those trying to get in. I learned something new from everyone I chatted with and walked away with new friendships and network. I’m looking forward to the next one, and to seeing all the friends I made.

It’s been a challenge the past week to get solid time in learning web dev and doing #100devs classes but I’m pushing myself this weekend. My plan is to watch Leon’s front end super review today and get back into JS on Sunday.

Excited that Death Stranding is now on Xbox consoles! Last time I played this was on my PS4 during the pandemic. I’ve been wanting to play the Director’s Cut in 4K before DS2 comes out.

Shout out to @joshwcomeau.com's principles. He closed his 135K Twitter account, despite it being a major marketing tool for his content and courses. He spent his final days informing his followers about the election before closing it and moving here. Protest isn't always convenient.

Just listened to @ryandotfurrer.bsky.social’s podcast @webdevdialogues.bsky.social episode 2 interview with fellow Austinite Alex Appleget. I can relate to how he could code for hours and suddenly realize he forgot to eat. I hope I get the chance to meet him at Commit Your Code Conference in Dec.

I’m having fun with doing challenges on frontend mentor. This was a simple mobile and desktop layout. It’s nice having all the assets. I kinda want to pay for premium to play around with using the figma files.
