I truly do think philosophy is very valuable. I'm headfucked, but I wouldn't have devoted so much of my life to a struggle that I believed to be worthless. And now I have to take seriously the problem of philosophy communication. How do I get more people doing philosophy without pissing them off?

I fully understand many people just want to go on about their lives but there's only so many boomers believing "AI" are people, so many "friends on the left" coasting through spontaneous vibes, and so many people completely alienated from their own THINKING that I can ignore until I scream WHY??

With a stated goal of "AI" to be cognitive deskilling, apolitical propaganda and politicians that seek to throw us to the most miserable and passive of emotions, it's so easy to argue and believe philosophical education is necessary

This list is not exhaustive, I just want to say that it takes an obsession to dedicate considerable amounts of your life to "pure" philosophy, and not just the philosophical questioning that comes from their main craft. Those people are cool and can be functional, even well-liked.

Philosophy self-selects for specific type of assholes. There's those who long for prestige, and so become state sponsored intellectuals. There's the geeks, who derive intrinsic motivation out of the pure pursuit of esoteric riddles. And there's the Nagging Fuckers like me who care about edification.

The raw uncontrollable mass of fanfiction points to me that stories most assuredly do not belong to the companies, or that canonicity is anything but a guiding framework. Stories belong to those who can satisfy them the best, with certain fanfictions overtaking the source material (Like C0DA).

I really don't know what would there be to add to a story in which the characters had their arcs, the tension was solved and the message was carried successfully. I suspect this is the secret of Nomura writing, deliberate vagueness / obfuscation to entice people into the Goldilocks Fanfiction Zone.

For me, fanfics needs to be in this goldilocks zone of "oh shit this is good" and "but the author dropped the fucking ball here, I can fix this". I know this is not a universal thing, but for me fanfiction almost always *feels* like a critique. (Critiques are not bad or hostile though!)

I am not really interested on derivative works of media which I am satisfied in. I can understand taking some of the concepts and themes and making them your own, but that's not a fanfic, that's just... writing. It's odd, most people do fanfics of the things they really like. But that feels off.

What has made me read / write fanfiction more than any other thing is when the authors Fuck Up Something That Was Going Well. Starcraft is amongst the earliest fanfics that I read, and they were better than starcraft 2's shit. Elder Scrolls? Played an entire alternate timeline TTRPG about it.

There's many reasons to do fanfiction, maybe you really like your anime blorbo, maybe you want to write an explicit version of an unresolved sexual tension in a game. For me tho, the main reason is that I like Just Enough of a story. Enough that it intrigues me, but not enough that I agree with it.
