I could not have written this poem were it not for my students in the Calvin Prison Initiative. For them, I am immeasurably grateful. And my thanks, too, to the folks at Muzzle. Link to the full issue in first comment.

Something often missed: for Kuyper, Calvinism’s confession of God’s sovereignty is fitting with and grounds representational democracy (and points to America). The ‘every square inch’ quote is no ground for theonomy. If Jesus is Lord, then no mere human or Christian can be.

Heinrich Bullinger, Reformer, writes on the 8th Commandment (do not steal): promote the estate of others. Relieve orphans, those oppressed for the truth, and in any misery or disaster. Do some today oppose even private charity to refugees? How can you honor the 8th of the #tencommandments ?
HEINRICH BULLINGER
(1504-1575)
"THE EIGHTH PRECEPT OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS"
"Let us therefore aid, succour, and relieve fatherless children and poor widows, old men and impotent people, those that are afflicted and persecuted for the profession of the truth, and such as are oppressed with any misery and calamity."

The consequences of not resting in God, @timkellerdaily.bsky.social says, is that you would always be ‘working while you’re resting’, rather than ‘resting while you’re working’ - I find this to be profoundly true. From this sermon: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

I don’t often give life advice to my students, but sometimes I’m drawn in to doing so. When I do, I say - particularly to young men - that they should learn to cook, clean, and care for children. And, moreover, that they should learn to do these things in an “everyday” way, not as an “extravagance.”
