I saw Hope on Saturday. Along with Memories of Murder, it's a movie that suggests rural South Korea is a lot like rural Texas. It might have the best scenes of people fighting monsters that I've seen in any movie.

I saw Resident Evil. It makes me think of a horror After Hours (or Caught Stealing, if you're not old). It's constantly jumping between body horror and comedy in a very organic way. I keep forgetting it's based on a video game. I think people will later on watch it for its 2020s zeitgeist.

Avenue B Grocery has an authentic early 20th century vibe in a way that's less Johnny Rocket's than Stephen King. I used to pass it every day: whitewashed walls, long out of date soda logos, wooden bench -- right in the middle of a purely residential neighborhood -- I assumed it was a hallucination.

This might be common knowledge, but _almost any_ bookstore can sell you _almost any_ book in print. You just have to special order it. It's a little costlier than Amazon, but I really like that I'm keeping an independent bookstore going and not funding those bastards.

Mostly more. I had a lot of really serious challenges. I was powerfully ADHD in a time and place that it wasn't recognized, and I was among people who turned their own pain into hostility. It did make me blind to aspects of privilege in ways I'm still ashamed of.
