🔴 One nice defensive stat is that York have committed the lowest number of fouls per match in the league. Again this might be impacted by York generally having possession so not having much need to commit fouls, but still a positive sign if it means less chance of suspensions.

What about York's out of possession work, in particular their pressing? 🔴 #YCFC rank 17th for 'possession won in the final 3rd per match'. Doesn't sound great, but worth keeping in mind that City's opponents don't have much of the ball so there's fewer chances to win it back.

Defensively, the picture is more mixed. York's overall xG against is the 4th-best in the league, but... 🔴 City have conceded the joint-most goals from set pieces in the league (5), and from an XG against of just 1.3. Clearly still work to do on tightening up at set pieces.

🔴 City also sit in 1st for expected goals (xG) with 13.1. As this is close to the actual number of goals scored (13), it suggests that City's level of scoring should be sustainable as it relies on creating plenty of good chances rather than freakishly good finishing.

Of course, possession on its own doesn't mean much unless it leads to chances. But the attacking data is also positive for York. 🔴 #YCFC again league leaders for shots on target per match with 6.3, and also for big chances created (23).

🔴 Looking at the player-level data shows just how much of an outlier our passing game is: four of the top five players for for accurate passes per 90 minutes in the *entire division* are York players. Three are midfielders, so this isn't just City playing keep-ball at the back.

🔴 City are also well clear at the top for accurate passes per match. Their total of 461 is almost 100 more than next-best Chesterfield, and actually more than double the number of accurate passes per match made by 10 sides in League Two.

24/25: first season in NL with York, quiet Aug/Sep again then scores loads from Oct onwards. 25/26: only 1 in Aug, 5 in Sep looks better but 4 of those pens. The open play goals flow again from Oct, even though he's moved to a no.10 role when Stones breaks into the team in Nov.

23/24: starts slowly again with Worthing then hits a crazy streak from Dec-Feb, scoring 26 goals in 17 games including four hat-tricks. Interestingly there's a drop-off after Feb, which is when Hinshelwood leaves Worthing to take the York job. Still ends on 40 (forty) goals!

There's interesting detail if you dive into individual seasons though. 22/23: first season in NLS with Worthing, only 5 goals by Xmas - but he'd been played out wide or as attacking mid, once he was moved up front in Jan the goals started coming and he finished on 25.
