Ingredients:
1 filet salmon (steelhead preferred)
Miso paste
Dark soy sauce (not regular!)
Chili crisp, ideally sichuan chili crisp
Salt
Everything bagel seasoning

Equipment:
Aluminum foil
2 cookie sheets

Preparation:
-Spread aluminum foil on one cookie sheet, and then put another sheet of aluminum foil on top. Spread a mixture of salt and everything bagel seasoning on the bottom, until the entire bottom is covered.
-Remove skin from salmon filet carefully, if it is not pre-skinned. Pat dry, and place on salt-covered foil.
-Mix the marinade. Amounts will depend based on how big your filet is, but the ratios are 4 parts miso, 2 parts dark soy sauce, 1 part sichuan chili crisp. So twice as much soy as chili crisp, and twice as much miso as that. Mix until a homogenous paste forms.
-Rub paste all over the top AND bottom of the salmon filet until completely covered.
-Top the salmon with another layer of the salt and everything bagel mixture, then use the aluminum foil to seal the marinating filet and salt into one packet, sitting on the other sheet of foil.
-Place the cookie sheet in the fridge, then place the second cookie sheet on top of the filet to weigh it down. It's helpful to put something on top of the second cookie sheet to help the curing process.
-Let cure for a day, then remove from fridge. When the salmon is done, it should be significantly firmer and redder.
-Rinse any remaining salt and marinade off of the salmon, and cut into thin strips using diagonal slices to maximize the surface area of the meat. It should be almost translucent and deliciously fatty.

While Weird Al's satire comes from a place of elevated ridiculousness, the thesis of Gordon's comedy, both in his songs and sketches, boils down to "look at me recreate something we both agree is cringe." The thing that really pisses me off about this is his popularity and success are based on the fact that the cringe shit he's making fun of and profiting off of is good. If you have "Planet of the Bass" on repeat because you think it's catchy, you should be listening to more eurobeat. If you have "Selekta" on repeat, there's an infinite library of '00s UK garage for you to peruse. And if you like "We Will Never Die," kill the part of you that cringes and dust off that Edward Sharpe LP you bought in college.

There is a longer version of this rant that gets into how Elvis made rock 'n' roll safe and palatable for a larger audience, and how about 15 years ago, future funk DJs started doing the same thing with Japanese city pop and motown. Each abstracted genres for their personal benefit while positioning themselves as an acceptable pipeline for listening to a genre that was previously obscure, unpopular, out of fashion, or indeed, cringe, paving over musical history and burying smaller artists. I'll let you fill in those blanks. Kyle Gordon is talented, but he isn't funny, and worse, what he's doing is anti-art. Fuck him.
