Taking a break from tracking a fresh herd, it looks like one of Sakara's hunting companions has caught his eye. Giving them a knowing smirk when they notice, still trying to peek under their loincloth. Love this piece from @grimsvault.bsky.social, did a great job with a Sakara being a little cheeky

Yes, I'm only just getting around to watching Spaced. And I am enjoying it so far, think it's gonna take up a good chunk of my time off.

They’re already underwear though, kind of. Underwear *and* outerwear in one. Very comfortable, and better at covering things than one might imagine.

Yeah, it’s not exactly a standardised collection. Slightly spoilt having always done the Severn Valley and Gloucestershire & Warwickshire railways. On the bigger side there.

I’m sort of half and half on what I said, since there is accurate stuff around. I just suppose if you’re already filming based out of a particular country, it’s easier to stay local. Although yeah, I can’t imagine there are a lot of dreadnaughts kicking around, if you wanted to film on location.

Trains are fairly easy to nitpick in films though, and I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s laziness. It’s nice to see a practical approach, even if it’s wildly inaccurate because that’s what was available… even if more accurate options are available.

While most of the focus I saw, at the time, was on how filming on location didn’t help the accuracy of Dunkirk, I have a slightly more niche one: The ending scenes feature BR Mk1 coaches that didn’t come into service until 1951.

Zoo souvenirs are always far too tempting, I would have ~many~ if I didn’t exercise restraint… though I do usually pick something up for the younger sibling. The reindeer there is a weird one. I think it’s supposed to be a Christmas decoration, picked it up for cheap at a charity shop in Cardigan.

I would argue with that, but then I'd have to account for the number of times Sak's been taken captive.

Being an elder sibling by nineteen years, has made me realise how out of the loop I am now. My mother randomly asks me if I know x, y, z meme that the little brother has been repeating, and all I can do is ask "what on earth are you talking about?"

It occurs to me just now, I wonder if having orange fur as a hunter is slightly advantageous. I remember reading that a number of animals can't see orange, and it instead appears as a shade of green or brown, hence a number of animals growing flamboyant orange fur.

I recall Conor telling me, one of the first times I went to visit him, that the water in the area tasted awful because it's imported. Reason being that there used to be a uranium mine nearby, and it wasn't cleaned up properly after closure. Thus the groundwater is slightly spicy.

In terms of sediment/particulates, I know here we have... I believe it's high quantities of limestone dissolved in the water. Not an issue for consumption, just causes limescale to form inside pipes and on taps. A minor inconvenience. And, uh... dangerous groundwater is reminding me.

The Roman Baths over in, well, Bath have a basin plugged into the local spring that you can try. Can definitely taste the difference in that. Although, my brain being stupid, wouldn't let me swallow it since the water in the baths is now very dirty. Of course, that's only fed from the spring.

Silt isn't ideal, but it could be worse. I recall seeing somewhere... You can make a filter for particulates using woven reeds, but I can't recall if it's a specific kind of reed or not.

Drawtober 8 - Fox I didn't have many ideas for this prompt, so I just drew a random prehistoric fox. He doesn't seem to be a very friendly fellow, but maybe he'll warm up a bit soon! Also he wears no pants. Who needs those when you have a thick fur coat? :P #furry #furryart #anthro #traditional
An anthropomorphic fox in prehistoric attire, with a fling knife, bodypaint and a necklace made of boar tusks. He's crouching in the snow, giving a wary look to the viewer.

Reminds me of folks looking at you funny, if you mention water having flavour. The yeen said our water tastes chlorinated, but having lived here 26 years you don't notice. Then, of course, travelling a decent amount you notice it abroad.

I know this is a tangent, but it's neat. Went with this after reading about a study, where folks tried living as Mesolithic hunter-gatherers. And it was noted they defaulted to rationing food, because they had an end date to work towards. Which wouldn't be the case for actual ancient people.
040
Sakara, Stone Age Fox 🏳️‍🌈🔜 NFC ‘27 @sakarafox.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Also brings to mind another subject that came up recently: Food rationing. Sakara's folk don't ration food, outside of winter and times of scarcity. If they're short of anything, they go to friends to ask for it, or go out and get more of it. Imagine grocery shopping, but it's spearing food instead

Certainly don't have a few interesting survival-related channels and resources bookmarked, it's helpful for certain things and interesting Although, can be misleading in one or two ways too. Like how a lot go solo, and thus the experience is one of constant work, as opposed to sharing that work out
130
Sakara, Stone Age Fox 🏳️‍🌈🔜 NFC ‘27 @sakarafox.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
And I imagine Sak's folks have enough of an understanding, from observation, to know something's up if seemingly clean river water starts getting people sick. Enough so to send out a few scouts, and check upriver for dead animals and such.

You never know. Maybe I’m messing with those “ancient aliens” conspiracy nuts, and some space-bound civ has been finding it convenient to dump stuff in their oceans. The megaliths were built to tell them to piss off, someone lives here.

That's the thing, because I remember it coming up in the medieval section of our History of Medicine & Surgery GCSE History course. Then later I've learned the truth is more nuanced. I think that's just a consequence of squeezing such a big topic into two years, between two minor history courses.

Certainly, yes. I've shown Sakara's folks using charcoal in medicine- or, it's in an unfinished story. And given they make tea, and have to melt snow in the winter, they clearly know of and are able to boil water.

That we are. And yeah, while certain waterways are better than they were a century ago, it's gotten worse again recently. Ongoing scandal with water companies dumping sewage, it's practically public knowledge at this point.

Drawtober 8 - Roast A pack of random Lupines from my fantasy setting gathered together to roast some wild boar! NOM! :P #furry #drawtober
Anthro wolves gathered in a forest around a wild boar that has been hung above a fire to spit roast. One of the wolves is cutting a piece of already cooked meat while three others, two adult males and one puppy are looking at the female cutting the meat. Meanwhile one female is controlling the spit roast to rotate the carcass above the fire.

Indeed, yes. It was slightly amusing *and* concerning to learn that the River Avon in Bristol still allows swimming, despite barely being under the level of pollution that would force a ban. I think some people assume animals are super immune to some things, by virtue of being animals in the wild.

Just came to mind because someone shared a photo of a very... iron-rich spring water fountain. Reminded me of visiting the alps once, and refilling my water from an old, stone basin built directly into the path of a mountain stream.

Yeah, that's the rule of thumb. You're not gonna see Sakara and co. on their stomachs, slurping out of a puddle or birch mire. They might top up with lake water, if they're being lazy and it's closer than the river.

And it isn't strictly true. I mean, it's not modern processes clean, but their rivers are considerably less polluted than ours. Certainly not perfect, to be fair. Like I said, not tap water clean. One bad day, an elk decides to keel over in the wrong spot, and a few folks get deathly ill.

Random tangent related to a convo elsewhere: Surprised by how often people have felt the need, to insist my characters wouldn't have consistent access to clean water. It's not a tonne, but enough to want to know what they're basing that off.
