What the Luddites Really Fought Against
The label now has many meanings, but when the group protested 200 years ago, technology wasn't really the enemy

How to weave in (some of) your ends as you go 🧶 I like to get at least some of my ends out of the way while I’m still #knitting, so this is how I join a new colour. ☝️ Start by fraying the yarn end to taper it.

Bellini Bubbles with Baah yarn in a fingering weight. Assigned pooling with these gorgeous colors was so much fun. So happy with my little galaxy. Focusing on my small bubble helps to maintain sanity. #knitsky 🧶 Before and after blocking.

I started knitting my red hat. Yarn is smooshy cashmere by dream in color, colorway is Poppy. As I stitched and chatted in the knitting circle, I realized how valuable it is to share physical space with your community to freely spread ideas and information. Not an algorithm in sight. #knitsky 🧶

New Year's Eve, and 125 years old today is 'The Darkling Thrush' by Thomas Hardy. (And when I myself read this poem, I often find myself becoming aware of that blessèd Hope from that frail and gaunt thrush ✨️)

One of the cotton fingerless gloves done. Pausing to whip up some convertible mittens for the tiny humans cause, baby, it's cold outside. There were so many new techniques in the brioche patterned glove. It was my first attempt at a rolled hem. I swapped the MC and CC accidentally. Oops! 🧶 #knitsky

I may have been overly ambitious trying my hand at brioche patterned knitting. The chart makes my head spin. Cotton doesn't seem to be elastic enough to make brioche sparkle, but I love the colors! It will be a beautiful learning process either way. I need something different after gift knitting. 🧶

One more row, then time to tackle my first i-cord bind off. I'm so sad the Advent calendar shawl is almost done. It's been such a fun journey watching the colors blend and unwind. My inner child loves the Lisa frank vibe! I think it's time for more socks after this shawl. #knitsky #wip 🧶

Fuchsia complete. On to the first of 2 purples before bind off. Progress is slowing as the rows are lengthen toward the end of the triangle shawl. The colors are pretty, so I don't mind. ❤️ If only I could get my thoughts to settle while the needles fly. It is still too noisy up here. 🧠🧶 #knitsky

My hands and wrists have been aching this past week, and I blame the bamboo circulars. Picked up a set of Lykke Colour this morning, and it is a night and day difference. Knitting with them makes my teeth dance in the best way, plus who doesn't love a set of rainbow tools? 😍🧶 #knitsky

The purple stripes are done and the gradient section begins. These two mini skeins are playing so well together. I'm spoiled to bits by this cashmere blend, hand-dyed by my local yarn shop. It's hard to put down as I want to see how the next row of color unfurls. #knitsky #wip

I fell asleep an hour into last night's episode of critical role, so it is on this morning while adding more rows to the shawl. I'm back to opening the remaining boxes in order since I've scrounged out all mini skeins. 😅 2 more purpley stripes then starts the final blended section. #knitsky

Can't stop won't stop opening more boxes of the shawl Advent calendar so I can keep knitting. In my defense, the triangle shape grows a stitch or two longer every two rows. I need all 8 colors to finish the 1st section of stripes before starting the 2nd, much wider, section. 🧶 #knitsky #spoilers 🪨🎁❤️

More from the LYS, kettle dyed scrumptious sock yarn from their one of a kind Advent calendar. It is so much fun to open a new box each day. I've been swapping most days with notions for skeins of yarn when I want to keep knitting the shawl. 🤫 Don't tell Santa!

I lost yarn chicken. I wound up using the main color to complete the last 50 stitches of the last row, then I cut the working green yarn and had to rejoin again cause I am center pull all day long always and forever. Only 8 more rows of garter then a picot bind off! #knitsky 🧶

Only one more lace repeat to go for the gardens of Giverny shawl. If my math is right, I'll have enough multicolored yarn with 3 grams leftover, then on to the border in luscious green. To be honest, I don't think I'll make it through the next repeat. 😅🧶 #knitsky

Day 2 progress on the Advent shawl with kettle dyed yarn by my LYS. I was excited when I picked up the kit, then grew nervous the coloring might be all red and green. Finished knitting the front of my sweater today. Winding up yarn to start the back has been more meditative than the cabling. The cumulous yarn is so fluffy, and it tugs at something nostalgic I can't quite name. I'm pretty sure this is going to be too short, but we'll see what blocking can do!
Front half a sweater, pattern is bows and braids by anxious girl knits. Yarn is cumulous by Juniper Moon Farms, a super squishy cotton.

I've had a dream sweater stuck in my head since I saw a grad student wearing it in the math office my junior year. I'm trying to find the perfect pattern and yarn combination to recreate the chunky, cabled, short sleeve sweater. Does anyone have any other cabled sweater patterns to recommend?

New socks on the needles. This picture doesn't do the depth of color justice. The yarn is a wool-cotton blend, and it is so smooth to knit. 🧶 #showmeyourknits #wip #knitsky Does anyone else struggle to practice mindfulness while knitting instead of speeding along at a frantic pace?

I hear blocking is magic. Does anyone know if it will untwist the stitches at the toe or close the holes along the heel? Exactly how much magic are we talking? ✨🧶 I plan on making a swatch as part of a sock gift kit so the owner can send it through the wash as a test. #knit
I'm in love with the Laines Du Nord watercolor sock yarn. Knowing the white strand in the middle marks the start of sock two helped me get closer to making a twin pair, though a sprinkling of errors made sure these are still siblings at best, cousins most realistically.

It took me a second pair to figure out but the watercolor sock yarn by Laines Du Nord has a stretch of white in the middle to mark where to start the second one to make an identical pair. The more you know! Today was a great day for D&D and sock knitting. RIP Sim. 🧶
