This from @jenrubin.bsky.social really jumped out at me: don't let billionaire owned, Trump friendly legacy media control candidate debates, reach into the independent media sphere instead. Also, replace debate with innovative things like this:
The staid format of debates, especially the trite podium line-up of a dozen or more candidates ready to chime in with canned responses, also does not serve voters well. Rather than promoting nasty soundbites or reducing candidates to playing pundit (What makes you think you can win?), Democrats would be smart to innovate with different formats, special topics, subgroups of candidates, and nontraditional moderators. (I would love to hear Heather Cox Richardson ask candidates about their vision of American democracy or Paul Krugman discuss economic inequality with candidates in a small roundtable setting.)

So far this week I’ve gotten a fake agent from a legit agency who wanted me to send a manuscript through email and someone flattering the hell out of an anthology I was in a decade ago that sold mostly author copies.

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 9 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/FNfgR
Graphic from Stand Up for Science urging action on a federal funding proposal. Large text reads: "9 Days Left" and "Help Us Stop Vought From Destroying American Science." A portrait of Russell Vought appears beside the U.S. Capitol. A banner along the bottom reads: "Submit a comment on the OMB proposal | Link in bio to take action." The Stand Up for Science logo appears in the top left.

Schlimmbesserung [SHLIHM-bess-eh-rhoong] (n.) - An attempt to make an improvement that actually makes things worse. - An intended improvement that has produced the opposite effect.
A two-panel image. The top panel is a “Grandiloquent Word of the Day” meme for the word "Schlimmbesserung", defined as “an attempt to make an improvement that actually makes things worse.” The example sentence jokes about an apiculturist trying to breed a better honeybee by crossing Apis mellifera scutellata with Melolontha pectoralis, accidentally creating the “notorious killer cockchafer.” To the right, a black-and-white illustration shows a dejected beekeeper sitting among rows of hives, with signs reading “Blasted Hopes,” “Apiary & Fixtures for Sale Cheap,” and “Going to Kansas.” The bottom panel shows a hazy photograph of the Lincoln Memorial seen across the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C.

President of MIT not mincing words today in @statnews.com www.statnews.com/2026/05/27/s...
So let me say it as clearly as I can: Without basic scientific research, supported by the kind of farsighted public investment that allows large-scale, undirected, curiosity-driven inquiry, the scientific pipeline will run dry.
In daily life, people may not feel the effects right away, or even in 10 years. But we will feel it. And when someone we love needs therapies that could have emerged but didn't or when other countries now
investing in science can launch new science-based industries or run their societies on vast resources of fusion energy or reap the benefits of quantum computing power or advanced medical breakthroughs, America will wish it sustained its leadership in scientific research here and now.
Sally Kornbluth is the president of MIT.

Bobance [BOB-ens] (n.) - Pride, boasting, presumption. Middle English from Old French Used in a sentence: “Despite possessing all the depth and charisma of a damp crouton, he nevertheless carried himself with an astonishing degree of bobance.”
A “Grandiloquent Word of the Day” meme featuring the word “Bobance” followed by the pronunciation “[BOB-ens]” and the definition: “(n.) 1. Pride, boasting, presumption.”
On the right side, an ink-style Victorian illustration depicts a smug, overdressed gentleman standing with hands on hips, chest puffed out, and chin tilted upward in exaggerated self-importance.
At the bottom left is the humorous example sentence: “Despite possessing all the depth and charisma of a damp crouton, he nevertheless carried himself with an nauseating degree of bobance.”
The background resembles aged parchment with faint ornamental watermark lettering and softly darkened vignette edges.

This should be bigger news. We need food. And I’m more concerned about the smaller family farms than the corporate agriculture. All of the big monopolies need to be broken up and maybe we will have less salmonella and listeria outbreaks.
