Did some benchmarking of nailpit's markov chain impl, and I'm quite surprised. 20-22 million tokens per second after being trained on the full Moby Dick text. I think iocaine does around 10 million tokens per second currently? There's potential improvements still, but that will be a whole effort...
Benchmark result for an output of 28KB, 1.2599ms time spent generating, or 22.746 million tokens/elements per second.

Got my (very basic) KDL config being processed and sent to my Pico 2W over BLE, which powers a pump at the configured times! It feels great to have my timer code work correctly and then recalc the next alarms fine. All with a config that looks like:
Some KDL config for a Pico powered water pump:

pod {
    pump0 time="07:07" duration=5 freq=1
    pump0 time="07:08" duration=2 freq=2
}

I am a very normal person, writing very normal code, hmm, yes.
A  block of rust code:

static JIFF_QUEUE: Mutex<CommandLock, JiffQueue> = Mutex::new(BTreeMap::new());
static JIFFING_TIME: Signal<CommandLock, ()> = Signal::new();

Prusament PETG V0 is a tricky filament. I solved bridging issues, but now on the last skirt, it keeps not printing well and burning the filament. This only happens on the last bit, because I figure the other layers get enough time to cool & set. Anyone got tips for this particular filament?

I know there are plenty of folks who shit on @edzitron.com for being a hack, but uhh... I think the finance folks are starting to say the shit he's been saying for years now. ... is that good? (Link to the report in question: www.bis.org/publ/arpdf/a... )
The opacity of AI-sector financing compounds these vulnerabilities. Hyperscalers, chip makers and AI labs are linked through a complex web of private arrangements. The most prominent is circular financing: chip makers and hyperscalers take equity stakes in AI labs or neocloud providers, who in turn commit to multi-year purchases of chips or computing power. Data centre construction is increasingly outsourced to third parties that lease facilities back to hyperscalers on long-dated contracts with embedded exit clauses. The terms of such deals are typically poorly disclosed, with risks of the same asset being pledged multiple times. Together, such arrangements account for a sizeable share of sector-wide financing and forward revenue (Graph 13.C).

A sharp repricing of equity risk could prompt a reassessment of corporate credit risk and lead to tighter credit conditions more broadly.1 Indeed, broad indices of credit spreads tend to correlate negatively with stock market returns (Graph 14.A), more so for the high-yield than the investment grade segment. While large, synchronised corrections in both markets are rare, there are notable precedents such
as the Great Financial Crisis and the March 2020 dash for cash episode. A repricing of risk this time, whether triggered by higher interest rates or an AI bust, has the potential to be similarly disruptive by triggering a corporate credit freeze with wider implications for aggregate investment.

Any tightening in credit conditions could expose existing vulnerabilities in the less transparent private credit space, whose reach has expanded among middle market and small firms (Graph 14.B). Signs of stress are already visible: direct lending funds catering to retail investors have faced mounting redemption requests, forcing some to liquidate assets and return capital despite having no contractual obligation...

Also happy at how my coffee plant is doing. Might be a bit too warm for it, but humidity is good outside, and it is shaded with enough sunlight. Might have to figure out a better way to keep it going over winter tho

Been printing out replacement enclosures for my moisture sensors, and the Prusament PETG v0 natural filament has been a nice improvement, since it lets through more light in, allowing better data out of the light sensors the board has. Still figuring out the best print settings for it

So, here is an example of a fundamental misunderstanding of why artists are so against AI. Ignoring how AI is being wielded against them, trained on their work without compensation, and completely oblivious to the motivations and needs of artists. "Better results" ain't it /1
em: its understandable why artists are generally polarized against ai. The people making ai have a fairly good understanding of the types of tools programmers want and basically no clue how to make good tools for artists.

llms support a variety of levels of coding automation, you can use it for review/analysis of your code, micromanage and direct every action, let it design entire programs by itself. For art it seems like you only really have prompt -> complete image, which yields the worst results for programming.

Or you can just cut out the middleman and write the code yourself, without a lossy and gambly translation layer involved. A lot of advice on LLMs seems to ignore the existence of folk who have stronger nonverbal reasoning skills, who don't get the benefit of LLMs in how they work 1/
srrrse: It's actually a great time to care about the craft. I don't know if people realise this but you can write whatever into the prompt box. You can use the AI to get the function just right instead of making it generate crap as fast as possible.

Laurie Voss: I have always been the kind of developer who only cares about outcomes. Give me the tool, the framework, the head start. I just want my website.

A totally different kind of developer exists who carers about the *craft*. Getting that function just right. Those devs are in pain right now.

Now that I'm back from my trip, getting to work on my projects again. Tweaking my lightning detector monitoring app, upgrading the #bevy version and bevy_ratatui. Still some networking bugs, but at least I have a nice util to help improve the MCU/driver code. #tui #ratatui #embedded
