The importance and recency of running water in the developed world is woefully underestimated.

Especially in the Panhandle I think the GOP primary shows that many have already decided. I think Nixon’s hope is that many of the choose not to decide, which of course means that they still have made a choice.

He needs five years in the Senate for his pension, right? I’m thinking of of timing of the resignation of MTG.

Odd that for a post supposedly about the federal context, your example was that of a state governor.

Of course the Deterrent Effect of Capital Punishment ranks right up there with Subduing A Civilian Population Solely Through Aerial Bombardment as an untrue thing that is still widely believed by those who are highly motivated to believe it.

He’s one of Those Guys, a character actor who pops up everywhere. I’ll drop a photo; right now I can only remember The Perfect Storm, though I think he was a near-supernatural character in a Nic Cage flick.
Actor William Fichtner

As Rick Wilson said, “He has the gift.“ AOC perplexes me at times. Her own political gifts are enormous but she does have the occasional head-scratcher.

The catastrofvck in Iran makes Hegseth eminently gettable; he‘s my first target. RFK Jr. would be next though it might take another health crisis for that. Blanche would be seen as a direct challenge to Trump. I’m not th interested in working with Trump; just looking at targets of opportunity.

Also Neshoba County, Mississippi in 1980. Trump didn’t add the racism; he just removed the gentility.

I remember, I hope correctly, that the GOP basically held Miguel Estrada over the heads of the Dems, essentially threatening to turn over the so-called “black seat” to a Latino. But as anyone who has read The Stand knows, there are worse things than crucifixion…

That tracks with the sudden influx of cash into his campaign. It seems like the Thune crew has parachuted in to protect the warm (R) body and that body gets no say. It might also account for the Angela Paxton hostage video.

I’m not talking conscience, I’m talking about continuing to keep one’s bar standing. Remember that DiGenova also quit this 💩. My uneducated guess is that they were being asked to do things that could lead to disbarment at best.

Exactly. What was so very screwed that he couldn’t go along with it? And also why would any elected GOP official have accepted a job in this administration unless they hated their elected position?

I’d really like to see an analysis that includes Cameron’s gubernatorial race in KY. I know that Beshear is perfect for that state but I saw that as a 1-2% race not the 4-5% that it became. My pet theory as a chud on Bluesky is that an AA GOP candidate causes about a 2% undervote.

The B&W walking, glowering, “deep state”-ing 30-sec ad? Yeah that was on the WVU/OkSt game on FS1.

Thought this would amuse you. Watching WVU v OkSt on FS1 in Tampa and saw my first Granpa Simpson ad. Just a 30-sec B&W of his walking down a hall with that glower. No mention of the GOP, of Donalds, of Moody, or of anything but how he fixed everything. Also, “Paid for by the U.S. Government“

If the Senate GOP wants to go to the wall to support a man more hated than Ted Cruz, then not a thing to be done. Worse case is that Senators and Trump are forced to directly support Iran. Also I think that Hegs Seth will be considered as leas of a frontal attack on Trump unlike Blanche.
020
Steve Carrow @sacarrow.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I disagree that it would be impossible. The Iran War is a steaming mountain of 💩 and I think even GOPers will be looking for someone to blame and impeaching Hegseth would give them the opportunity to blame the Cossack rather than the Tsar (h/t to @braddelong.bsky.social). Not Trump nor Blanche.
120
Steve Carrow @sacarrow.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
I do disagree with the idea of not impeaching anybody because I think impeaching Hegseth is the best route to ending the Iran conflict or at least changing the prosecution of it. Having said that, maybe pursuing very specific programs while allowing him minor wins(the Zelenskyy approach) might work.

Gotta say that I wonder why such a horrendous GOP internal poll was even released. My wild-ass theory is that Paxton’s people got ahold of it and are using it as a desperate (monetary) cry for help.
