TTRPG change that's saved me from the most minor of headaches and maybe it'll help you. My players used to ask me how every name is spelled for their notes. They'd still butcher names later. I stopped spelling and tell them, "Phonetically in any way that helps you later." 100% success rate!

AND I gave them multiple entrances and windows to try to surround enemies. Instead the party all opted to come in through the basement over multiple rounds where baddies could toss fire bombs on them from upstairs and then step out of sight. LOL At least this week they used Hero Tokens to heal.

Oops! All Combat! happened but this was inevitable. I'm proud they actually made half a plan this time, researching blueprints obtained in a downtime activity, coming up with ways to draw baddies out, and then when push came to shove, MULTIPLE checks I invented on the spot to help them failed HARD!

With a few enemies still at or near full stamina, and two PCs with only 1 recovery left, I'm not sure every PC will survive next session or not. Oh, and the new blood effects added in this week's patch to the Codex are a hoot! SPLAT!

I think this was the writer, a new player, responding to what they later learned was a roleplay bit, and nothing to do with the actual, playable Jedi aspect of the game at all. Like the trainer would just instruct the player, having them "train," be it sabers, focusing, meditation, etc.

My question with all this is are these all game mechanics, or imaginary? The story I remember reading was that these were all some players were doing, pretending to hit like a target dummy in "Just the right way" with their attack animation for like an hour or more at a time.

Years ago I rad a story taking place in Star Wars Galaxies where the writer talked about the "training" they did to become a Jedi from another player. I think they just stumbled upon the player and took up their offer, doing days or weeks of real time "training." Does anyone else remember this?

Most who don't like it don't seem to know this is, or want, what SNW is, an homage to TOS, and not TNG-era. In the TNG-era they went for more sciencey science fiction, but TOS was rarely that.

The word gimmick is far overused for sure. Most episodes have a bit of, "What if Poseidon Adventure, but Star Trek?" "What if Casablanca, but Star Trek?" "What if Days of Our Lives, but Star Trek?" but each one is a strong character story atop it.
