iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

in my quest to try to be a better person i am trying to help my sister bridge the gap to promoting her art online

rudi @ryjelsum.bsky.social · 16/10/2026

speaking of this kind of crap i should get my sister set up on social media to post her stuff more easily. i would recommend postybirb or something to her for that but the fact that it's not an in-browser app is a bit of an issue, maybe it's fine enough if i get her a laptop that performs well

if it's "just for fun" then how come i'm not finding it fun anymore

reminder, perhaps most relevant for my artist friends for "reach": follow bsky.app/profile/ap.b... in order to get your posts mirrored on mastodon and shit, so that i can repost them and stuff like that

i3bar and therefore swaybar sucks so bad and they rejected feature requests/code submissions that in aggregate would have amounted to functionality that i want but instead i have to poll the window title every fucking second. love open source software, so much

rejecting so many features under the principle of the unix philosophy of "do one thing and do it well" until my software no longer does one thing well

i guess this is where it helps that i'm a fucking second generation techbro because my dad actually was there while all of this shit was taking form and so i know the context of how this stuff took shape much more than your average ~30 year old

they're gonna have to start teaching the history of the internet in every networking class to convince students that ipv6 actually has a good reason for existing, to do away with a lot of workarounds that people have become used to, and that it actually is a fully functional replacement for ipv4

010 1

rudi @ryjelsum.bsky.social · 14/10/2026

www.reddit.com/r/homelab/co... i love it when people try to say that ipv6 is badly designed when they actually just have a severe misunderstanding of how it should be used. this is what ULAs are for. you give your interfaces more than one IP. stays the same if you lift and shift. not that deep

i like searching up alternate-vocalsynth covers of good songs since it is A Tradition and i usually don't post them but... god i like this, it uses a rin voicebank but doesn't make her sing ungodly high. we need more low-femme vocalsynth songs www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FQx...

or actually sometimes they're not beautiful. sometimes you make something out of clay and it's just not playing nice with you. and sometimes you learn that by taking it all the way through the process and having it turn out horribly. i have a few things like that

000 0

rudi @ryjelsum.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

and it is kind of weird thinking about how out of all of the things i have made over the course of my entire life these beautiful objects are going to be their most enduring but they will be devoid of their context because i'm just a guy and there will likely be no great books written by or about me

also she went out of her way to make a ceramics studio and that really is my art form. i feel really at home there figuring out ways to build stuff and using chemistry to make interesting colors. that's a huge impact on my life

rudi @ryjelsum.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

the first example of this was my public school's art teacher and probably my number 1 artistic mentor who ended up showing me that art is a lot of other things than just drawings on a page. it is a weird sort of relationship to be personal friends with a teacher but it was nothing inappropriate

also from what i understand it's an archaic phrase from british english that was retained in indian english so who are we to judge whether that's still correct
