The new Superman heavily channels the kind of energy that makes Mr. Smith Goes to Washington a favorite.

My wife and I collaborated on this project; I did the painting and she added the beautiful dry flowers.

Really love seeing all of the OLD NERD HEADS making fun of the children cast in the new Harry Potter series. Good job at life...

My wife and I collaborated on a few pieces. She did the dry floral arrangements and I painted the backgrounds.

I’m flipping through oldest son’s middle school yearbook, & honestly, it looks just like it did back in my day. No shocks. Just a remix of the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s. Has anything really changed? Today’s style feels like a mash-up of all the past decades

Here’s my new painting, Phoenix Rising, which I’m honored to submit to a silent auction supporting survivors of domestic violence.

I thought it was very well done with great casting and exploration on genre. I won’t share a full review because this is something best experienced for yourself. This particular image was during a powerful moment, and the commentary on music and the black experience was especially impactful.

Issa Rae killed it in Episode 3 of Black Mirror Season 7. One of her best performances and the one that pulled me back into the series.

What’s really weirding me out is seeing people who look like grown adults but have never heard of free minutes after 9 p.m.

Thanks, Apple, for The Studio! It’s painful watching it, though. Will The Morning Show get another season?

With all of this stock market back and forth are the wealthy elite making gains behind the scenes while we eat cake?

I asked ChatGPT to list 25 films that it believes should be on my favorites list, based on the themes, discussions, and stories I tend to gravitate toward and tell.

Back then, The Handmaid’s Tale was the perfect cautionary tale. Now? Watching the news on Hulu feels a little too on the nose.

Obama’s win seemed like the death of Republican Party. Then the Tea Party became a populist revival. Is the Left on the verge of having their own populist version of the Tea Party moment?

He says, “Hang tough.” “Hang tough” is the new “Let them eat cake.”

Finally watching Snow White and for the first time ever, I actually prefer the Snow White scenes over the evil and dark magical queen stuff. Lol. Funny how Snow gets most of the heat, though.

I’ve been thinking about how Superman has always reflected the vibe of America. When he showed up in the ’30s, he felt like an immigrant hero, fighting corrupt landlords, greedy bankers, and standing up for the little guy. He had that Depression era, everyday-people energy.

Had a beautiful chat with my oldest aunt (b. 1932), a bold, cause-driven woman. She’s lived through the Depression, wars, McCarthyism, & the Civil Rights era, but says today’s world is the first time she’s afraid to share her views with neighbors because of too many broken norms and no shared trust.

I’ve mostly stayed out of the Snow White discourse, but I have to say—the Queen was always stunning in the original story and Disney film. Her true ugliness was internal and only showed outwardly when she transformed into the old hag with apples. Gal Gadot’s casting makes perfect sense.

Black activists are urging folks to disengage from MAGA completely—no arguments, no reactions. The fear is that “47” wants to provoke riots as a pretext for martial law. Feels like a throwback to the civil rights era when leaders stressed composure to avoid being painted as aggressive.

Funny how the Right freaks out over a burning or toppled trash can but shrugs at school shootings and protesters getting run over. The Left destroys things. The Right hurts people. Either way, oppressed folks know the real power move is messing with the flow of money

Love it, but I take issue with Democrats crying over the loss of “norms.” While we may not have wanted to completely flatten the system, the so-called “normal” system was in dire need of reform—we don’t need a return to the past.

Turning the word, “woke” into a derogatory label for people “they” don’t like totally dismisses the use of it in response to the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin. #StayWoke

They straight up bullied a sitting world leader like it was high school. I mean they talked about his attire. Seriously? Yet Elon wears whatever he wants while speaking on Trump’s behalf.

Horrible display in the Oval Office today and I’m embarrassed on behalf of….US. At least I can “try” to see some of the 7 planets aligning tonight. That serves as a reminder that there’s something bigger than the stupidity happening in history right now.

It’s one thing for evangelicals to treat 45/7 like he’s God’s chosen leader and compare him to a king—but they forget we’re not a theocracy; he was voted in. Even worse, they overlook that Elon wasn’t voted in at all, yet he’s out here grabbing power like he was.

Ryen William Thomas @ryenwilliamthomas.bsky.social · 18/02/2025

“They” say illegal immigrants are “stealing Black jobs,” but is the real plan to gut education for certain groups so they have fewer options, pushing them into those same farm and field jobs? Sounds like a new kind of slavery.

As tech bros increasingly take over MAGA, swapping their red hats for black, we edge closer to Black Mirror becoming reality. Or has it already?
