#Autism and Suicide. Let's talk about it. Not a fun subject to talk about, but it's one of the most serious issues facing the #Autistic Community. Let's get some stats on the table to begin with. (All of these stats and content are from Autism Action)
1 in 3 autistic people have considered suicide, and 1 in 4 have attempted to take their own life

Autistic people are up to eight times more likely to die by suicide than non-autistic people

Suicide or deliberate self-inflicted harm is the most common category of death in autistic children without a learning disability

Suicide is the top cause of death amongst autistic adults without a learning disability

They locked children in cages. They. Locked. Children. In. Cages. Cages. Children. This is a school, in the United Kingdom, in the 21st Century. This is a national disgrace. Can someone please explain how this has been allowed to happen? I can’t process this. #Autism #SEND #schools

A reminder, this happens in schools all across the UK. Schools will call them “sensory rooms”, or “Quiet areas”, but in reality they are padded cells where children can be arbitrarily kept in for hours, with little oversight and zero accountability for staff. It’s a prison in all but name.

“There’s so much to learn.” Hart said. “The problem is that people with autism can be really rigid and inflexible. So when they asked us to change the training due to not relating to the content, we said tough.” thedailytism.com/psychic-neur...
