The underlying idea of Leeroy at the end is to keep holding on, no matter how bad it gets, and to let others in to help you. You never know what’s on the horizon and you CAN make changes to make your life better, so don’t give into despair.

We finally saw the Norwegian sun! At 11 PM 🇳🇴

A hazy, foggy 11 PM summer sunset over the North Sea just off the coast of Norway. The sky is an hue and is reflecting off the water.

Old video, but these are interesting. I might try to get ahold of an s70 to pair with Ollama. The manufacturer has been working on a PR and has their own branch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPMp...

Our teacher is from Colombia. We take any opportunity to learn about history or perspectives she gives us. I can remember being small and wondering why we never learned about... a whole lot of the planet because the US and occasionally Britain. Now I know.

I had no idea how much I needed this Open Policy Agent rego in my life until it stopped me from throwing random things in the default namespace like 6 times in a day.

Learning Spanish, we've been getting a lot of the not-so-heavily-sanitized backstories on figures like, "Christopher Columbus." Very controversial and often hated figure outside US K-12.

Tinkering with Nexus, it's annoying that it doesn't expose publish dates. So uv pip's "exclude-newer" can't function. Means it's an either/or choice instead of progression (you either use uv pip's config OR you pay for Sonatype IQ out the gate).

Kind of amusing since it looks like most of the coin whales have moved onto throwing money into prediction markets.

Also the non-rc versions of 7.x have mitigations in place (so Ubuntu 26.04, CachyOS, and very up to date Proxmox). Until they have the kernel patch ready, Ubuntu 24.04 has been mitigating with a kmod patch (I took their modprobe approach and applied it to my proxmox since I'm paranoid).

copy.fail Funny thing about copy/fail. The *default* kernel in al2023 (Amazon Linux) is based on 6.1 and is not susceptible to this (tested the poc in a virtual machine). However most "optimized" images (like the EKS ones) are using kernel6.12 which is. I believe there's a kernel6.15 as well.

Copy Fail — 732 Bytes to Root

CVE-2026-31431. 100% Reliable Linux LPE — no race, no per-distro offsets, page-cache write that bypasses on-disk file-integrity tools and crosses containers. Found by Xint Code.

blog.cloudflare.com/email-for-ag... Interesting. If you're in cloudflare your dns is already there. Not having to duck with DKIM/DMARC/SPF for simple use cases would be nice. I'm curious if they're going to move in on MXToolbox's DMARC report monitoring stuff.

My understanding is that a bunch of their people's *personal* phones had Mobile Device Management on them (I would guess from Outlook) and got locked or wiped. Kinda validates my stance of *heck no* to MDM and having a dedicated beater phone for work stuff.

This is way too real.

The giveaways have been fun and they work under Graphene. Unfortunately, you'd think they'd implement tags or any kind of intelligent search on their android store. But of course, you'd be wrong. Fortnite must pay well for the Epic store to still be around.

I want to 100% both of these again on my alt account. Subnautica concluded the crafting survival game genre for me, it's that good. I really really hope the sequel comes out, is good and ISN'T another awful gaming tragedy.

This is cool. Reminds me of linear Doom. www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/...

Proton is impressive. It even fixes games with bad linux builds (ex: Rimworld has a crash bug in the Research screen under linux. Proton -> Windows build runs flawlessly).

I'm curious at the choice of a Chromium base over Firefox. Chrome based browser have completely fallen to "second tier logged out only browser" status for me due to manifest v2. Ublock Origin is not optional for my sanity. It's a bit sad since I otherwise liked my time with Vivaldi.

My experience with HSMs has largely been paying from $15k to $60k (+yearly maintenance and you often don't even get a non-production simulator) for a key encrypting key solution you don't trust... all to check a box on a compliance form. It's quite silly.

000

Oh, this is cool. Reminds me Trello... but not Atlassian. I had a very silly setup years ago where an ECS lambda would use a trello kanban column as a queue. I'd dump links into it from my phone and it'd go dump a pdf into s3. I have the bits now to do it on-prem. Might be a fun weekend project.

Ryan Munz @ryanmunz.com · 03/02/2026

Late response, but Proton 10 isn't a linux distro. It's a shim that steam brings in to sit between a windows application and linux. I don't have a steamOS machine, but I'd be hard pressed to think it won't have vlc or mpv available in the package repository. Any major distribution have them.

Would go hard in Subnautica.

Proton 10 and Wine 11 are incredible. I've had exactly 2 things I pointed it at not work. One being the Epic launcher (because of course since it's garbage) and the other was using a *very* Windows specific framework.

Yep, Playstation had a mouse. Quake 2 could use it. So could Alien Resurrection the game. Civvie did a video on the latter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDKB... I "think" Resident Evil Survivor could use it as well (it was supposed to be a guncon game but then Columbine happened).

Heh, for some reason under ubuntu 22.04 the difference in file *creation only* (not write, that was comparable) between a CIFS and NFS mount coming out of TrueNAS was 9000x. Was a fun little performance boost to find.

Oh yeah, confirmation bias go brrrrrrrrrrrr. They're useful but you have to understand that it WILL try to agree with you a lot.

You can do this on metal too. Either use yt-dlp to pull the subtitles OR generate them yourself using Whisper. It's harder if there are multiple overlapping speakers but most instructional videos aren't that.

One of the oddities of Bing... not being the most popular SEO platform while *also* being a windows default is that it's valuable for targeting people who don't change defaults. Like Grandma! Make a copycat domain, spend way less than you would on google to bid it up, and wait.
