1/ An alienating part of Gen AI driven work I've been reflecting on is the way it leads domain non-experts into reinventing the wheel e.g. rewriting libraries or functions, legal precedents for lawyers

1/n Scientifically defined, heritability is a numerical concept used to estimate the, contribution of genetic variants to overall variants of a trait within a group so basically heritability estimates the degree to which the variance of a trait within a group is due to genetics.

This is hard to believe, but is happening: the CVE program to end later today? CVE has been the de facto way to track software vulnerabilities - from disclosure to fixing - globally. Feels like everyone will be worse off - and I wonder what will replace this, if anything will

I find it really disturbing how our prevailing financial system and concentration of attention is based on this 30 year old hype-train by mostly the same set of players. We see it in the valuations of Tesla (cars with computers), FAANG stocks, AI, crypto.

I think it's fundamental that there are times when the people and the knowledge are inseparable and that several aspects of knowledge cannot be easily disembodied from the people. It shows up as bureaucracies. It shows up as descriptive representation. It shows up as indigenous science

Kathleen Norris believes acedia to be a state of restlessness, of not living in the present and seeing the future as overwhelming. Especially present in monasteries, it can invade any vocation where the labor is long, the rewards slow to appear, such as scientific research, long term marriages

Further, the illusion isn’t limited to vision — you can get the same effect in "haptic" versions, where people use their hands to feel physical forms of the illusion (& still report the top line as longer!). Not really what you'd expect if visual exposure were the culprit. (6/13)

I propose we replace semantic versioning with pride versioning
Diagram with large number: 2.7.123
First “2” is commented: Proud version. Bump when you are proud of the release
Second “7” is commented: Default version. Just normal/okay releases
Third “123” is commented: Shame version. Bump when fixing things too embarrassing to admit

TIL you can accidentally make a lasagna battery (if it's high enough in salt and acid) and you make it in a metallic pan and put an aluminum foil on top. The aluminum even corrodes onto the lasagna leaving it safe to eat but tasting awfully metallic
