Puts the burden on everyone to manage and increasingly enshitifies our common infrastructure. Unfortunately not an uncommon trend.

Expect to see QR code style enrollments and schools especially requiring more formal phone systems to ensure the official number shows up on caller id.

Default will become only contact-list numbers can get past the filters on your phone. Will shift all the burden to schools, doctor offices, and other numbers that you need to get contacted by but that otherwise are not likely to be in your contacts.

Nothing explains local politics more than the idea that local communities will band together to block a land owner from putting solar on their property instead of crops. People thinking that their "views" overrule someone else's property rights is amazing....

Dark as in you can't see a damn thing because the special effects budget got blown though and they made everything darker so you can't tell how cheap it looks.

Also by my math with current gas and electricity prices I am paying about 1/3 as much per electric mile as I would per gasoline mile. That is before factoring in solar power since most of the time I charge at night for cheaper TOU pricing.

ryanfalor.bsky.social @ryanfalor.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

I want the math to work on adding a battery system to my home solar but it just doesn't... The house already has a backup generator so the battery only offers pure power cost arbitrage and at current prices it won't payback for more than 20 years.

As others have said the Google Maps thing isn't a policy decision by Google. They use the map labels and boundaries of the official organizations in each country. For the US that is the GNIS. There are places in the world where the literal borders change depending on what country you look from.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”
