I'm pretty all-in on CSS logical properties but I absolutely cannot break the habit of using width/height instead of inline-size/block-size. I don't know why but that one just does not click in my mind as well as inset/margin/padding!

Got my highest ever score in Poinpy endless mode at 630. Every fruit you pick up adds an icon that follows underneath you so things started to lag somewhere around the 400s. I knew my time was coming to an end once I passed 600 so I made sure to grab a screenshot first. Great game!

In this screenshot I have a score of 629, meaning I have collected 629 fruits without getting hurt by an enemy or touching the ground. There are rows of icons representing the fruits I have picked up following underneath my character and they have grown so large they are overflowing off the edges of the screen.

I was really shocked at how easy it was to read and how genuinely funny it was at times considering how pop culture presents it as being so stern and serious. Life got in the way and I never finished it, but I want to give it another go soon.

I've been admiring Mastro from a distance for a while! I'll try it one of these days. I think I'm too attached to my bells and whistles I've added to Yeti though, like being able to attach CSS/JS to a component for auto-bundling or using JSX-ish syntax for components.

No I'm going to push back on that, it may be anecdotal but I've used both a ton and feel very confident in saying that JSDoc is way more verbose and gets very awkward in some advanced use cases. I like what JSDoc lets me do and will continue using it, but it's okay to not love the syntax.

It's definitely not as ergonomic and takes a bit to develop the proper muscle memory for how to do certain things, but yeah you can express basically everything that TS can in JSDoc, it can feel pretty freeing to have absolutely zero build step on your site!

Sometimes when I set my phone down on the kitchen counter it randomly opens the app store page for some LG app and I've had no clue why this was happening. I finally just figured out that our dishwasher has an RFID chip and if I set my phone down on just the right spot above it, it scans!

This is another new one for me! I believe it's a red admiral butterfly. The camouflage is so sick.

A really cool butterfly, I believe a red admiral. It is predominantly brown with some tufts of hair on its body and really cool antennae which have a sort of black and white striped pattern with yellow dots on the end. Its wings are orange, black, and white, but they are closed up so only the underside is visible which has an incredibly cool pattern that looks just like wood bark, serving as really effective camouflage.

Astro is extremely polished and very nice to use in general. But if you want to go off the beaten path and write your own custom plugins and stuff, 11ty is much more flexible in my experience. I have the curse of loving to tinker and micro-optimize sites more than I need to, so I tend to use 11ty.

I think this is the closest I've ever been able to get to a monarch butterfly. They tend to be extremely skittish every time I try to take a picture of them!

A monarch butterfly on swamp milkweed flowers. Monarchs' bodies are black with white spots, and their wings are orange with black lines running through them and more of the black and white spotted pattern along the edges.

A really beautiful endangered butterfly which we can all help by planting milkweed, the only type of plant which their caterpillars can eat!

A sweat bee on an anise hyssop flower. This sweat bee has a shiny green head and thorax and a black and white striped abdomen. Its hind legs are loaded up with big yellow globs of pollen.

I think the idea is that it's like RSS in that it's effectively a data format for representing a feed of posts hosted on your site which people can subscribe to through AT proto apps? Definitely agree the site doesn't make it clear what it is/what it's for.

Bug thread 2026, we're back baby

A bumblebee starting to climb into a Hairy Beardtongue (penstemon hirsutus) flower. These pink flowers are long and tubular so bees have to climb all the way inside of them to get to their nectar. This plant is also very fuzzy with little hairs all over its stem, leaves, and flowers. Hence the "hairy" part of its common name!

There's an interesting phenomenon in online native plant communities where people are informed enough to be aware of what the plant disease aster yellows looks like, but not know what purple coneflowers look like when they're budding and FREAK OUT every year when everything is totally fine.

I've been having a lot of issues with VS Code lately but I feel like there's nowhere else to go. I keep trying Zed but their git integration is such a massive downgrade, and the lack of extension support makes it feel like if you have an issue with their opinionated design, there's no way out.

New rules if I was in charge: - Costco is not allowed to arbitrarily change their layout after you just nailed down where everything is - Hostas are banned. Plant something more interesting - Stores should have to carry light roast coffee. You would like it more than medium/dark if you tried it

Well today has been an adventure. I had deviated septum surgery this morning and I'm still recovering. Then my partner strained their back and now has limited mobility. And THEN a bird got into our air ducts and the two of us had to figure out how to get it out in our hobbled states. But we did it!

Ah, after doing further research I appear to have stumbled on a gray area where no specs officially cover this behavior but Firefox and Chrome happen to support it, maybe intentionally, maybe not. That probably means this isn't a great idea to rely on, but it's a neat trick.

Wait, no way. The shadow DOM ::part() API works on SVG <use> contents! This is super helpful for being able to pierce the shadow DOM to apply custom styles to SVG sprites without having to rely on CSS variable hacks. Unfortunately, it appears to not work in Safari. codepen.io/editor/gyanr...

Apparently Node's type stripping doesn't allow stripping on anything in node_modules purely just to discourage library maintainers from only publishing TypeScript. I was so excited at the idea of just saying my library requires Node 24+ and publishing no-build TS, but that dream is dead now

My opinion is that the top-level utility layer should be focused on atomic styles that you would never need to override any portion of; this seems like it needs a "mixin" layer above "base" but below "components". (don't know if I like "mixin", just a name that came to mind)
