Got my highest ever score in Poinpy endless mode at 630. Every fruit you pick up adds an icon that follows underneath you so things started to lag somewhere around the 400s. I knew my time was coming to an end once I passed 600 so I made sure to grab a screenshot first. Great game!

In this screenshot I have a score of 629, meaning I have collected 629 fruits without getting hurt by an enemy or touching the ground. There are rows of icons representing the fruits I have picked up following underneath my character and they have grown so large they are overflowing off the edges of the screen.

This is another new one for me! I believe it's a red admiral butterfly. The camouflage is so sick.

A really cool butterfly, I believe a red admiral. It is predominantly brown with some tufts of hair on its body and really cool antennae which have a sort of black and white striped pattern with yellow dots on the end. Its wings are orange, black, and white, but they are closed up so only the underside is visible which has an incredibly cool pattern that looks just like wood bark, serving as really effective camouflage.

I think this is the closest I've ever been able to get to a monarch butterfly. They tend to be extremely skittish every time I try to take a picture of them!

A really beautiful endangered butterfly which we can all help by planting milkweed, the only type of plant which their caterpillars can eat!

Don't think I've seen a sweat bee in my garden before, hell yeah

A sweat bee on an anise hyssop flower. This sweat bee has a shiny green head and thorax and a black and white striped abdomen. Its hind legs are loaded up with big yellow globs of pollen.

Bug thread 2026, we're back baby

A bumblebee starting to climb into a Hairy Beardtongue (penstemon hirsutus) flower. These pink flowers are long and tubular so bees have to climb all the way inside of them to get to their nectar. This plant is also very fuzzy with little hairs all over its stem, leaves, and flowers. Hence the "hairy" part of its common name!

My dog's name is Harrison and Hair Is On his entire body... Nominative determinism?

My dog Harrison lying on a fluffy blanket in his favorite chair by the living room window. He is looking up at me like he thinks he's going to get something. He is a coonhound/terrier mix we got from a rescue, a very unique looking dog. He has a primarily white body with lots of little black spots, and his head is primarily black with brown markings on his eyebrows and cheeks. At 35 pounds, he's a little guy with a sleek skinny body and long skinny legs which allow him to run very fast despite being 10 years old. He loves going on walks more than anything on earth, as long as it's not raining.

Monarch butterfly caterpillars are finally here!!! The absolute best.

A monarch butterfly caterpillar on the underside of a swamp milkweed leaf. Monarch caterpillars have black, white, and yellow stripes and have pairs of black tentacles on their head and rear. I say tentacles instead of antennae because apparently there is a meaningful difference; an antenna is considered to be stiff and rigid while a tentacle is more flexible and soft.

I have long thought that you simply couldn't buy MSG at most American grocery stores. It turns out, maybe you can! They're just so scared of the weird racist backlash against MSG that they just call it "flavor enhancer" and the only evidence that it is in fact MSG is the ingredient list on the back.

This is definitely one of the best photos I've ever taken. The bumblebees have been loving our coneflowers!

A bumblebee (I believe a female Brown-Belted Bumblebee to be specific?) on a purple coneflower. The bee has a fuzzy yellow mane around its shoulders and back, and a brown-ish patch on its back which is why I think it's a Brown-Belted Bumblebee.

The bee has a big grayish-yellow pollen sac on its hind leg. Usually they look more bright yellow/orange, but I don't think it could be anything else. Some bee species' females have "pollen baskets" on their hind legs which pollen accumulates in as they go from flower to flower.

The photo is an extreme close-up which reveals a lot of detail; you can see little yellow specs of pollen on the flower and on the bee's face. Very proud of this one.

I'm learning a lot about ladybugs. These are ladybug larvae, much less cute than their adult form. They go through a metamorphosis process similar to butterflies and moths! They are also incredibly ferocious predators. The second picture shows one digging into an oleander aphid for breakfast.

Ladybug larvae are a little scary looking. It has a very spiny elongated black body with red markings on either side of its back. They don't have the iconic hard shell or wings of a ladybug at all yet; that will come after it goes through a pupal stage and re-emerges in the much cuter adult form we all know and love.

The ladybug appears to be young as it's still very small, so it's going to take a while to eat since the aphid is over twice the size of its head!

A macro shot of a Sunflower Maggot Fly sitting on the leaf of a Sunchoke.

I know, "Maggot Fly" does not sound appealing, but it's a very striking looking insect. It has a bright yellow body with ruby red eyes, and its wings are transparent with cool wavy brown bands running through them.

They use plants in the sunflower family as hosts for their larvae who feed on the flower's stems, but it's pretty harmless to the plant.

For any curious, my use case was that I had a custom select input with an icon + text label, but if the select input gets shrunk down enough, I wanted to cleanly hide the text and only show the icon.

I still cannot believe how easy this was to get going. Entirely from one bottle of store-bought kombucha. I got impatient with my first batch and bottled too early but hopefully I can make some good refinements the second time around

A large 1 gallon jar filled with fermenting kombucha. A pellicle is beginning to form on the top (a floating layer of cellulose which is a by-product of the bacteria and yeast doing their thing)

Hawk moths are amazing. It's a huge moth that looks and hovers like a hummingbird! I have some plants in my garden that are supposed to host them, really hoping I get to see one someday.

Our project of the day was replacing the light fixture in our bathroom. The old fixture wasn't properly mounted according to code so this also turned into learning how to install an electrical box. Very painful project, but lots of lessons learned and electrical stuff feels a little less scary now

A bathroom vanity with a mirror above it and a new light fixture above that. The light fixture is fairly simple: a circular base with an arm that extends to either side. The arm has 3 lights hanging down from it with narrow frosted glass shades over them.
