Honestly think that before you can put your name down to run for ANY public office, you should have to pass a test on how government works, and all responsibilities and restrictions that will apply to a holder of the office you want to run for. You fail? Better luck next time, but you can't run now.

It's 'pour some sugar on me' not 'wholesome sugar heart babe', which does make a bit more sense.

Yeah, the UK is really warm for how far north it is! We had a whole protocol for when they'd cancel school, which aside from storms was mostly due to the length of the frostbite window b/c we had sidewalk snowplows to make sure kids could GET to their bus stop without walking in the (plowed) road.

Actually feeling pretty good about whatever I've done with my privacy settings, they have literally no info showing for me in either the US or UK website.

I think the best tour pace is two nights per hotel, for the most part. Three is 'I wanna see other things', but one is too much packing and luggage moving.

It's truly a thing people don't understand: I think it's because most of the northern US has WAY colder/snowier winters than the UK. As a kid, I assumed that western NY was about level with Stockholm, where the weather is similar, which puts London a little south of DC, where the weather is similar.

Today I had The Honjin Murders by Seishi Yokomizo. Second I've had from him, and I really enjoyed it. It's a very twisty mystery, and the little bits about what happened afterward (which would be wwii) were particularly interesting.
The cover for The Honjin Murders by Seishi Yokomizo. It's a comic-style image, looking down into a snowy courtyard onto a highlighted sword stuck into the snow. Two people stand in the snow, one in red pointing at the sword, one in purple staring. A black cat walks through the snow, and in the back of the image are two sides of a building, one side with many pane-d Japanese windows lit up.

Sunday I had The Hot Zone by Jayne Ann Krentz (as Jayne Castle). These Harmony books are silly but tons of fun, I love them. Also thrilled to get a book in mass market paperback format!
The cover of The Hot Zone by Jayne Ann Krentz (as Jayne Castle), a Rainshadow novel. It's a chin-down photo-style image of a white brunette with long hair, wearing a black leather jacket, black leather tube top, and black leather pants with a studded belt, and holding a knife in one hand. She's twisted towards the viewer. Behind her is a white victorian house with black roofs and a cemetery in fog, above is a cloudy night sky with a burst of rainbow light coming from behind her.

Ugh, travel! Saturday, I had Murder by the Book by Lauren Elliot. The mystery here was pretty good, but the intensity of the relationships didn't ring true. No one I met two days ago is my best friend, you know?
The cover for Murder by the Book by Lauren Elliot. It's a cartoon of a cute bookstore, with a nice window display of books. There's topiary in a fancy pot and a stone bench in front, plus a chalkboard that says Rare old books', and a light blue hardcover lying face down on the brick sidewalk in front. The red door opens in to show books on the floor, and the lights are on.

Truly impressive how much effort the chaos house priors went to to do everything not just wrong, but weirdly wrong!

I got accepted to do a semester abroad in Ireland (too nervous about my Spanish to go to Spain!), and I went to my local shop and got some Celtic music to celebrate, because it was every-freaking-where!

It was much too cold to be hiding in bushes! I guess freezing to death was preferable to getting raped? She also had us do 'grab-twist-pull' practice to hurt a sensitive area when attacked, so from what I can tell we got a lot more than most girls my age, but I do still have some questions!

Triply insane, as where I grew up there was reliably snow on the ground 4+ months a year! AND this was pre-cell-phone! That was essentially it, if a girl's car broke down she shouldn't try to hail someone to help, as they might assault her, but they might stop to try it if they saw her, so, bushes.

In PE at my school, we learned how to hit up into his nose in a way that might drive his broken nose bone into his brain? We also learned if the car breaks down go and hide in the bushes, so it wasn't all useful info. Also pretty sure the boys didn't learn shit about consent during those classes.

At a sleepover, someone rented a cute cartoon (I'm not sure which). No one looked at the tape, the host Dad just put it in the player so we got several minutes of Hellraiser before he got back & turned it off. Living room full of girls having nightmares all night! Haven't seen the movie, not gonna.

I hate the pivot to video. I'm only ever going to listen while I'm doing other things, but many of my podcasts are now doing video and they keep referring to visuals I can't see but they don't really describe. It's infuriating.

I worked in continuity, so I had the headphones linked direct to the sound feed from the actor's mike packs. The number of actors who forgot to turn off the mike when they went to the toilet was... not small. Got very good at ripping those suckers off real fast!

Had an ancestor whose given first name was Doctor and whose last name was Craven, like in The Secret Garden. And THEN he became a doctor, so he was Dr Doctor Craven.

Yeah, my folks were in elementary in late 50s Illinois and Kansas, and I didn't have it in 80s NY, nor did my cousin in the 80s at the same school Dad went to, so it left in the middle there. Maybe when schools stopped having to have a fully qualified nurse?

I gather they used to do this in large chunks of the US- both my parents have talked about flu shot day when they were kids. It should really be a thing everywhere.

And today The Fake Divination Offense by Sara Raasch. This was fun. It was a little less trauma based than the first in the series, and the world is incredibly fun, so I really enjoyed it.
The cover for The Fake Divination Offense by Sara Raasch. It's a comic-style image of a big muscled white man with dark hair shaved on the sides wearing spiky armor in orange and black, holding up a small white man with pale pink hair and a tail, wearing a black and orange short unitard, holding a pom-pom, and wrapping thighs around the first guy. They stand in a stadium.
