I still find it incredible that somehow we're led to believe we have this incredible world changing technology, but the only stable shape we seem to be able to ship it in looks like a 1990s IRC chat client.

Your question is the least important thing an AI model processes: the standing wrapper around it runs to thousands of words, outranks any instructions you gave it and grows every update. No model at any price sells the mode that treats you like an adult. i15s.org/essays/nanny...

Fun little side project based on some shell code I wrote last year: one file that is valid bash AND PowerShell at the same time. Runs on almost any OS. Replaces curl|bash with an added integrity check. github.com/remcovanmook...

ICANN closed its new gTLD window: 1,600 applications at 227k each, ~$500M spent until now. The 2012 round was audited: benefits unmeasurable, chapters added on phishing and parking instead. Zero new ideas, just more toll booths. New long read.

Yesterday I published The Great Mispricing, on how regulatory tools are no longer effective. Yesterday was also when the US Treasury permanently repealed beneficial ownership reporting and will delete the data already filed. The law itself is still on the books. i15s.org/essays/the-g...

New site: Interdependencies. Long reads from the junctions between infrastructure, capital and law — nothing interesting ever breaks in one discipline at a time. Five essays up. i15s.org (yes, that's a numeronym; I'm still a nerd)

Captain Haddock looking very frazzled, saying, “What a week, huh?”
Tintin leans into the frame and says, “Captain, it’s Wednesday.”
