554 SM014: Revisited this one, another favourite that I have loved since the first time I saw it. I always forget what a gleeful asshole the invisible man is in this. Whale nails the tone of this. Wha...

553 SM013: Murders start happening around the new girl in town as her 16th birthday comes up. It’s trying to play in teen slasher territory, only it’s written like a movie of the week as sheriff Bo Ho...

552 SM012: I always flip/flop on this one. I do like it, but it drags a bit. As brilliant as Karloff is as the monster he’s done a bit dirty here as his characterization regresses back to a mute, and ...

551: You have to appreciate how wildly ambitious this one is as director as director LaLoggia goes far bigger than I presume his budget was to deliver a surprisingly polished satanic panic thriller ab...

550 SM010: Writer/Director Bree Mills sets her sights on the horrors of conversion therapy as young lesbians are snatched from their lives and sent to camp to be deprogrammed. It’s a porno, so the dep...

549: I went into this one blind so I wasn’t expecting a literal psychic thriller but it was a nice surprise. The mystery is interesting, and the way director McCarthy has it unfold is interesting, but...

Alberta separatists have gone to D.C. offering fresh water and oil in exchange for American support – and Republican operatives have provided tactical assistance inside the province

548 SMC008: The original “Frankenstein” may be my favourite of the Universal monster films, but this is James Whale’s masterpiece. Even with the censorship that happened prior to filming it does a won...

547 SMC007: I mean, I figured this was basically a killer rat movie going in so my expectations were maybe a little too in check but I quite liked this. Most surprising is the rat. I’m not an expert, ...

546 SMC006: Having gone through a few of these “Black Emanuelle” films, I enjoyed this much more than the other time I watched it, with a good chance I had previously seen a cut version. Anyways, this...

545 SMC005: Watched the “Fear” cut that Vinegar Syndrome released. The attempt to freshen up the series by getting rid of Dr. Gross and presenting it as a study of “Fear” instead of “Death” doesn’t re...

544 SMC004: The central idea of this film isn’t terrible, I hate to say it but the problem with this is Lon Chaney Jr. and the setting. Jr. is just too much of a sad sack and is just completely wrong ...

543 SMC003: This one was a nice revisit. I still don’t think this is as queer coded as people wish it to be, any more than any vampire film that has the vampire attacking both sexes. What’s interestin...

542 SMC002: Much like “Dracula”, this one is a perfect monster movie, with all the cast nailing the job and James Whale packing it with style and dread. I adore this one, it’s my number one favourite ...

539: I really liked this last film in the recent Vinegar Syndrome “Lost Sexploitation Triple Feature” set. It’s set up as a typical revenge film, but they go into interesting places as things start to...

537: I quite like this one. It would have been easy for them to just flat out rip-off “Midnight Cowboy”. Instead this one finds an out of work broke young man slipping into hustling while battling thr...

536: This one from John Woo is sadly a bit of a mess. At its heart it’s hitting the themes Woo explores like loyalty, the cost of violence on innocents, that kind of thing. The problem is this is tona...

535: Director and stunt fetishist Trenchard-Smith once again makes a film as an excuse to have Grant Page do a bunch of stunts. There seems to be two goals at work for this one: 1: Make Grant Page the...

534: Was a bit surprised to see adult legend Paul Thomas in the start of this as the title suggests a breezier travelogue after director D’Amato’s sleazy “Emanuelle in America” so the presence of a ha...
