Sorry I presume you knew. I had a (very!) unexpected heart attack in early October. Recovering now steadily and almost back to normal. Totally agree about the problems of water industry and sewage dumping. Dreadful.

Francis Cadell first visited the island of Iona off the west coast of Scotland in 1912 and returned every year afterwards, frequently in the company of Samuel Peploe. He felt the light was of the same quality as that in the south of France.

And it was a very good BB7. But favourite piece? An impossible question! One (all) of cello suites, or perhaps the Dona nobis Pacem from B Minor mass. But then there’s Erbarme dich from Matthew Passion, plus several other parts of both passions. Definitely impossible choice…..!

You are so right. This evening I went along for first time to local Art Group (in town I’ve just moved to). A demo of pastels over acrylic textured ground was very interesting. I usually paint in oils but came away with some ideas!

Peder Severin Krøyer's work depicts his wife Marie in their garden at Skagen in June 1892, a picture that puts you on the spot. Like Monet, Krøyer can see colours and contrasts and radiances that most people can't.

Acquisition news! Michael Ayrton frequently created imaginative, myth-infused landscapes with classical architecture floating in half-realist, half-dreamlike settings. The Fry Gallery is very grateful to Adam Forman for this generous gift. Sacred Place, oil on chipboard by Michael Ayrton, 1958
